per the Carroll County Times:

What's at stake: The Terps look to rebound from a 38-14 loss at Penn State, their first under DJ Durkin. The Golden Gophers, picked by some to win the Big Ten West, are coming off a 14-7 loss at home to Iowa and will be without starting quarterback Mitch Leidner, who is out with a concussion. This continues a stretch of winnable league games for Maryland before it plays Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska in succession next month, so beating Minnesota will put Durkin's team on the brink of becoming bowl eligible.

Key matchup: It will be a game decided by the respective defensive lines. If Maryland can stop Minnesota's three-headed running attack led by sophomore Rodney Smith, that will force a former walk-on, quarterback Conor Rhoda, to lead the Gophers to a much-needed win. Minnesota's defensive line has not put much pressure on opposing quarterbacks and has contributed to the Gophers being last in the Big Ten in red-zone defense, where opponents have scored on all 14 trips. The Terps and Gophers are tied for second in red-zone offense with a 19 of 21 success rate, including 15 touchdowns.
