Hopefully he doesn't need to be used as much in the future. No doubt a great asset.

Congrats!! We're lucky to have him as a Gopher.

dude deserved it with his FG kicking. He was great.

I thought it was a gutsy call to move a really solid kicker from the previous year. Turned out to be a real good move. I wonder why it was so hard to do at other positions.

Why did Santoso decide to switch?

He was a dual kicker and the Gophers decided they needed a punter. However, he was a very reliable kicker and one of those can win you a lot of games. I guess we got to see in Carpenter was the decision was made. Maybe it was obvious and not so gutsy after all.

I'm surprised that Fatty Smurf from PSU didn't get the honor. Or is he a gymnast? Hard to tell with all the flopping.

He did an awesome job. And to think I was worried when they switched Santoso to punter.

I kinda want to move Carpenter to punter next year as well.

Why did Santoso decide to switch?

According to Claeys, Santoso came to him and asked to punt this year. Claeys said he wants kids to do what they want, so they went with it.

Did Rodney Smith not get an all conference nod or has offense not been announced?

This kid deserved it. So nice to have consistency in the kicking game. Years and years of our kicking game being a weakness have definitely changed.

We've been bad recently? Other than kickoffs this year I thought all in all we've had some good kickers.

I'm thinking of the Rhys Lloyd, Jason Giannini years and such. It's a ways back, but I recall the kicking game always being pretty suspect in the late 90's early 2000's. Maybe wrong, but I feel it's improved significantly in the last 5 years.

Rhys Lloyd is your example of the kicking game being suspect? The guy who played in the NFL for 4 years?

The point was that our kicking game used to be more suspect and I think it has improved significantly in the recent past. Rhys was just a name I could remember.

Hopefully you will agree the kicking game has improved over the last decade and that Emmett's accolades are well deserved.

I also recall Lloyd being an alright kicker...

Holy buckets. I really just wanted to congratulate Emmett and acknowledge the kicking game. All apologies to Rhys. Did not mean to get off on a Rhys Lloyd thread. I made a mistake in including his name.

Again the effort was made to say I've seen improvement and hooray for Mr. Carpenter.

My favorite...
"Made three field goals (28, 52 and 53 yards) against Purdue to become the second Gopher ever to make two 50-plus field goals in the game game (Adam Bailey connected from 50 and 52 yards against Penn State in 1997)"

I could see Carpenter challenging Chip Lohmiller's record sometime.
