What if the Kill and Chryst rumors were put out by Mona as a test balloon to see what the response would be from boosters, etc? If they reacted the way we did...maybe it allowed Maturi to say, "we need money committments from you or this is what we can get" and is now going back to the guy they really want and can get, (Edsall IMO) and have a better offer.

I am convinced that Edsall is their best choice considering who told us no and who they wont hire...but he could be asking for 6 years or a big guarantee to take the job...could be a play by Maturi to get booster $$$$ to get the guy...just a thought.

I am still standing by my prediction that Edsall will be announced Monday.

Brilliant. If you know you have to hire someone the fans are going to be disappointed with, leak 3 names over a boring weekend, and see how many rubes on posting boards say 'damnit, even X would be better than Y or Z!'....then, hire X, you get the fewest amount of people pissed at you for the last year you're here, and everyone feels like they dodged a bullet.
 

We need a head coach!

Although Venables or someone of that stature might be worth taking a chance on, coordinators made more sense last time. This time we need a veteran organizer, recruiter, big time operator. Kill and Edsall would make more sense now than a coordinator.
 


I think some people on these boards are giving Dave Mona too much credit.

We've barley even mentioned his name over the past 50 days and all of the sudden he is the one organizing when the info will be released.

According to Doogie he was there to sell the U to candidates, not organize and strategize how they plan on telling the nation.

No one wants to admit that these are the two finalist, but that appears to be the case in my opinion.
 


I don't think it is a "test". They already have their guy. If this rumor is intentional, it was started in order to lower our expectations.
 

I had a similar idea that Kill and Chryst were leaked to soften the landing of whomever the actual coach is.

Agree. The whole "smoke screen" theory has had me in stitches for days.

Maturi isn't capable to hire a damn coach, let alone think ahead enough to create "smoke screens".

Any sense of utter confusion and chaos isn't a smoke screen, it's a bird's eye view into how he's handled the past two Football HC searches and how he handled the Monson and Mason firings.

It makes the Tubby hire all the more amazing.
 

Calm down fools, another smokescreen.

Even Maturi knows he would get roasted by the media if it was indeed NIU coach Kill. It is not Kill, even if Schmidt tweeted it. For all we know the next coach could be Mike Price from UTEP. Let it play out.
Either way we need a coach and need to get behind them instead of threatening to dump tickets like throwing a tantrum about it.
