There will be no firing of anyone this year and maybe not even next year. While Tim Brewster is getting pounded on by everyone from the media to the clerk at Super America, there is an argument for trying to do what we can to support his efforts. Calling for his head is totally unproductive and won't produce anything positive. I talked to several old wisky farts like myself in Madison after the game Saturday who can't understand why the harsh treatment of Brew. At first I thought that being surrounded by very decent wisky fans, they were trying to screw with my head. Some things did make sense: Brew came in with few connections in the head coaching world and had to take chances with and scramble to hire a staff. Having not worked with anyone he hired, he has been victim to a 3 year period of dysfunction within his staff. Comparing to Alvarez, he came to Wisconsin with guys referred to him by Holtz. These Wisky guys said it took 4 to 5 years for the stadium and the atmosphere there to mature after the Alvarez hire, something they say was a factor in the continued success of recruiting. Said also, because of the market we have with so many sports in town, brew might need 4 to 6 years to build a program.
I have heard the opposite but also said was Alvares invited all wisky recruits to play at home but he really built teams using kids from chicago and south.

Unfortunately, Tim Brewster has lost the confidence of almost everyone associated with Gopher football. The media and fans simply do not believe that he knows what he is doing or has what it takes to be a D-1 football coach. This is being reinforced every week.

Barry Alvarez had a little leeway as he inherited a bad team and the team took small steps forward each year. Brewster's team looks like it will go 1-11 and does not look any better now than when he took over.

Brewster was brought in to recruit but there are more things to building a winner than recruiting. Every other Big Ten coach is bringing in good recruits too and you had better know what you are doing or you will end up getting fired.

Make no mistake, Tim Brewster is in big trouble and I do not think he will be a head coach for another college team for a long, long time if at all.

It will get him fired and then we can really move on. Seems productive and positive all at once.

The antedote for Koolaid

1. Remember 1-11
2. Wait for 1-11 redeaux
3. Look at purpose of having a team play football
4. Remember, you were speaking with Wisky heads, not critical thinkers
5. Remember the happiest day of your life and then compare it to losing to Wisconsin last Saturday.
6. Relieve bladder as the kidneys, not the brain, can only clean out the koolaid.
7. Repeat 6 as often as necessary.

I think there is no way Brew is coaching next yr, besides winning out, which is not happening.

Alvarez didn't come in promising the world, or continually make false claims about where the program actually was. With Brewster's hiring decisions and inabillity to remain competitive he has done himself no favors. The fan base has every right to be upset and expect more from one of the leading universities in the country.

Not only will he not be here next year, he may be out before the end of this year.

Do you think this may be one of the reasons he shouldn't of been hired in the first place?

PLEASE GET RID OF BREWSTER.

I WAS AT MN HS GAMES LAST 2 WEEKS UP NORTH, AND OUT IN NORTH DAKOTA HUNTING.

SERIOUSLY, LOTS OF FANS THAT WANT TO CHEER FOR MINNESOTA!!!! PLEASE!!!!

Do we get rid of Brewster before or after getting rid of lakes?

I don't think the OP gives MN fans enough credit. Yes, there are those fans that say "fire the coach" everytime their team loses. However, I don't think that represents the current situation at hand. I get the impression that most fans on this site and elsewhere want to see Brewster gone because they don't see any way this program can get better with him at the helm.

I think it is now a foregone conclusion that Brewster will not be the coach in 2011.

I also think, however, that there is absolutely no way he'll get fired before 11/8.

If those two statements are true, then there is absolutely nothing to be gained by booing the team or chanting Fire Brewster in the remaining home games.

Problem is until fans are assured he won't be here next year they'll continue to boo and chant. I personally will not but those that do will not rest until there's an official announcement.

Brewster will not be with us next year. Here's why:

1) Season Tickets sales would plummet. This would hit the revenue line and would take years to recover from.

2) The University has committed to football with TCF Stadium. Part of that commitment is fielding a winning team. There is a lot of money tied up. A lot of empty seats would be a disaster.

3) It would not be good for the program to have a new athletic director, new head coach, and new assistant coaches at the same time. Someone needs to be there to have learned the system. Yes our current system is broken, but we at least have some procedures in place.

4) Bruininks has said that he would not tolerate mediocrity. We are far from even being a mediocre team right now.

5) Waiting is a very dangerous proposition. You set back recruiting more by keeping a lame-duck coach than you do by bringing in a new system.

It will be an ugly, ugly off season if Brewster is not fired at the end of the season. If we hire a new coach, there will be off season enthusiasm, there will be optimism again. People will come to the Spring Game if there is a new coach, but if Brewster is still here, they won't. Ticket sales will suffer badly if Brewster is still here. To keep Brewster here would require having strong reason to believe that the he can really turn it around next season.

It's best to hire a new coach. If there is talent here that Brewster could not exploit, the new coach will.

Not being an English major, I intended to report some conversation that had some merit. Not endorsing anything concerning the coach. I do endorse doing whatever possible to clear the train wreck we have and move forward. again can we see some football talk on this board? Is there any more info on Carter or on Gray's foot?
