I was just looking at Illinois's remaining schedule and it's pretty tough. Do you think we can catch them and end up finishing 5th in the conference? I think we have a pretty good shot the way we've been playing. We obviously have to beat them at their place to do it though.

Minnesota's Remaining Schedule (7-7 Currently)...
Purdue
@ Illinois
@ Michigan
Iowa

Illinois's Remaining Schedule (9-5 Currently)...
@ Michigan
Minnesota
@ tOSU
Wisconsin

Should be an interesting final stretch in the BIGTEN.

I think if we beat them we catch them and if we dont we wont. If they lose to us they could go 0-3 down the pipe and finish 10-8, along with us beating them head to head. Only way it can happen IMO. Odds of that IMO, about 15-1

very possible. likely? I don't know. I think if we pass illinois and finish 5th in the big ten, we are in the tourney (probably be 10-8 or 11-7).

If the Gophers go 3-1 with a win over Illinois, you will catch them. And since that's your only game against them, you'll win the tiebreaker for the 5th spot.

I would say, possible but not likely.

I woud say it is more likely they go 1-3 than we go 3-1, but for all those what ifs to fall in place would make for some long odds, IMHO.

I admit to being wrong at least once before lunch time every day so take it for what it is worth.

Naturally, I hope we do pass them!

I also will say the Big Ten gets 5 bids for sure, no matter what.

:)

Also, I think it matters what the Gophs do, not what the Illini do, besides the game against them. I hope we go 4-0 and they go 3-1 with a loss to us. Makes the conference bids as a whole stronger. No doubt in my mind if that happens that the B10 gets 6 strong bids.

As far as the dance goes I agree 100%.

+1

It can't happen unless we win in Champaign, which would require one of the longer losing streaks in college basketball to end. Possible? Yes. Probable? History says otherwise.

Besides this, anyone remember what the score was last year against Ill. at the barn? I'm guessing they do, and they will be a little more prepared this year. As of right now, I think that the gophs have a decent chance to beat um if they keep practicing as hard as they have been lately and focus, but Illinois will definitely not be a gimme this year.

Madtown, you asked..."" Can we catch Illinois and finish 5th? ""

Can we? Yes.

Will we? Damned if I know. If I did, I would live in Vegas and win a lot of money on games.

Need a Michigan win over Illini tomorrow night

If we get to 10-8 with a win in Champaign, we'll have a fighting chance at the #5 seed (would own head-to-head tiebreaker). Gophers need some help from Michigan tomorrow night for that to become a realistic scenario.

If we win at Champaign - not so sure an ILL loss to Mich is very important to us since ILL plays at OSU and home to WISC.

All we have to do then is win at Mich & Iowa at the barn ;).

Now if I could just get that Michigan game at the barn out of my mind.

Excellent point RRJ. But knowing our history I can't bring myself to expect a road sweep, especially with so much on the line. So I'll take the help from Michigan tomorrow, if they would like to help us.;)

No matter what LOL. Are you G*d? You do know that Illinois is fighting to get in with a RPI in the 70s. If they finish weak they will be out. Same goes for Gophers. Northwestern's RPI is in 90s. They are essentially dead. Big Ten had a down year and could end up with only 4 bids.

Agreed. When I saw Illinois' RPI I though the exact some thing: Our game against them, assuming huge win over Boilers, could essentially be a play in to the tourney from the Big Ten. The Illini are far from a lock, and if they falter down the stretch, they are done. It is very possible neither of us gets it. They have a tough schedue down the stretch, too.

Go Wolverines.

I think I am getting the picture SS - you steadfastly look at one game at a time.

However, now you are making me ponder what happens if Michigan wins out (UNLIKELY) to 10-8 and MN & IL both finish 9-9 (POSSIBLE).

Does Michigan make the bubble going to Indy?

EDIT
I just looked at the results and see that Michigan just lost to Penn St. They looked pretty good at the Barn or maybe we just made them look good - I thought they were winning the last few - I guess that's why they play the games. Too many variables - GO Wolverines!
