Ever since Kirk Ferentz took over the Iowa program, the Hawkeyes have always given this rivalry their full attention. They've come to play in each and every matchup. I can't remember if it was the same way when Hayden Fry was the coach, but that really doesn't matter now. While the Gophers have some victories during Ferentz's regime, it really was only when the Gophers had a better overall team. Even in defeat though, Iowa didn't go down without a fight. I hate the Hawkeyes, but I've always admired how they get up to play us. They don't take the day off when Minnesota is on their schedule.
Because the Hawkeyes are a better overall football team than the Gophers this year, and because the game is in Iowa City, I really believe these factors should prevent anyone from reasonably thinking the Gophers will pull this one out. However, that's why they play the games. Maybe Iowa lays an egg for the first time against us with Ferentz at the helm. Maybe that is combined with the Gophers' best effort of the season. If that happens, there is a chance; however, I just think it's unreasonable to expect all of those events falling into place for Minnesota. I hope I'm wrong.
