...with such a young backcourt? We all know how loaded the frontcourt is with All-American Trevor Mbakwe and Co., but as many many have discussed on here, the success of this year's team with hinge on how well the young guards can adapt.
I think this year's preseason will be the most important in Tubby's tenure. Every game, even those two against Division II squads, is vital in the maturation of the guards. I think Welch will start right away and A.Hollins with come off the bench. If Welch does well, which I think he will, it will be hard for A.Hollins to crack the starting rotation. Remember, Welch does have Division I experience and had a decent level of success (even though is was at a very weak/relatively new D-I program in UC-Davis).
I must admit, I am a little worried about how the young/inexperienced guards are going to react when Big Ten games roll around. It's a rough and rugged conference and there is little breathing room for young players, guards especially. Without a dynamic, 5-star guard in the line-up, I think it's going to be a rotation of players that share the ball in the backcourt. I don't see one player seeing exponentially more minutes than another.
