Maybe he isn't going anywhere.
Maybe he settles his legal issues & comes back in the fall?.. a de facto redshirt?

He w/d's from the U after the plea on Monday didn't work out.. no way to play this year... so no reason to hang on. If he hangs on and the legal issues go bad, it would force tubby's hand.. banish for life.

but if he's w/d'ed and the legal issues go bad, he simply does his time and comes back in the fall.

(and maybe someone shuffled the hat sequence on Seantrel and the USC hat was where the goldy hat should have been??)....

it's been a brutal 24 hours: Lucas undercut, Royce, Seantrel. :(

Can't imagine why he couldn't re-enroll.

But I highly doubt that he'd be extended another scholarship (and I suspect that's what you're really asking). I also doubt that he'd rejoin (or be permitted to rejoin) the basketball team. Too much drama for Tubby to revisit and White said too much for him (Royce) to do a 180. I just don't envision he would say, in effect, "I made a mistake and acted too hastily/rashly."

But who knows. This story has taken more convoluted turns than any screenwriters would ever take. (On second thought, after seeing Lost I think those screenwriters may be in the loop)

Here's a different thought. Kevin Whaley (asked for?) and received his release. Could there be similarities? Just wondering.

Royce is NBA draft-bound. He is not going to another college. Book it.

He may not make it in the NBA, but I'm sure agents are calling him right now. He will hire one soon and enter the draft. Pure speculation, but I am pretty positive that is his next move. Draft preparation.

And if I had to guess draft positioning, I would say he goes in the first round, somewhere between 22-28. Some team that doesn't need help right away will take a chance on him. Talent in the NBA draft tails off significantly after the top 10-12 picks. A team picking late will take a chance on White's potential.

Not to say he is going to make it, because he probably won't, but he will be given that chance.

1st round......this year?

I'll have what he's having....

Thanks agains for keeping me entertained. The 'Hole has been a sit com the past few days. I think Moonlight needs to whip up another soap story.

Art, I'm impressed by your 24 hours of access to the 'Hole, seemingly to add nothing of value, ever.

lmao, there is absolutely no way White goes in the first round. That's hilarious.

You know, Art, I started one - but there is no way I could hold a candle to what is actually happening.

He's not comming back to the U. Listen to what he is saying.

If he impresses at workouts he could go in the second round. My guess is he either goes late second round or more likely, undrafted and plays on an NBDL team untill he's ready for the NBA.

I could see undrafted free agent...Play a year in the D-League..come up and be a minor minutes guy for a year...then get his confidence that was ruined by the U of M back, and become one of the better post players in the League...15-18 pts per game...along with 6-8 rebs a game...If I were Royce I would enroll somewhere else...maybe talk to UCONN and Calhoun...they need all the help they can get as much as we do...I'm pretty sure he would be an impact player there for a year.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain I read he is still enrolled at the University, just no longer on his basketball scholarship.

He'd be a late first rounder or, more likely, an early second rounder. Based on talent, he was ranked 19th, but his checkered background, would probably slide him 10 to 20 spots. NBA talent usually tapers off in the 20-25 range. Would an NBA exec take a less talented boyscout or a more talented convicted shoplifter, I'd say half of them would opt for the more talented shoplifter. They can always stick him in the NBDL or let him play in Europe til he's ready.

I now have one more reason to dislike THUD (Troy Hudson). Not only was he one of my least favorite TWolves, now he was urging Royce to go play in the NBA now. Don't know if his influence swayed Royce, but just the same I didn't like it. Would have liked to see Royce play next year.

Pioneer Press reports "Freshman basketball player Royce White asked to withdraw from the University of Minnesota, Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi said Wednesday, and his request was granted." Link

USA Today also reported that the U had released White from his scholarship after receiving the paperwork from White withdrawing from school. link

Jesus, people are delusional about this kid. Just for the hell of it I looked at one mock draft to see where Raymar Morgan was projected to go. I picked him because he's a senior and seems to be physically close to White. They had him going at #54. This is a player who actually has played college ball for a respected coach and has been part of a winning team for four years. I also remember he was a prize recruit. And all sorts of "experts" see Royce being drafted despite a less than sterling college career and maybe a few red flags? Not to say he'll never make it, but you guys seem to think McHale is still a general manager.

Sorry, I got it. I read that he didn't have plans to transfer and thought that he hadn't withdrawn, which obviously, he had.

its true, maybe i cant tell a Nankivil undercut from a hole in my head...
but this is the only way the Royce saga plays.
he needs to step away to let the dust settle... start fresh in the fall.
come back and face the music... running to NBA or Big East is a bad character move.
win/win.
