Anybody who is recruiting you against us is probably telling you how cold it is here, how our stadium is only going to have 50K people, how we have both a new O-Coordinator and D-Coordinator, and how our head coach still is an unproven commodity.

But I will tell you that we are an extremely proud state that is begging for reasons to get behind our local University's football team. Yeah its cold, but we deal with it - welcome to Big Ten country! And by the way, tell those SEC and Big 12 teams recruiting you that we'd like them to come play a bowl game up here in January - then we'd see who the tougher, hard-nosed "more athletic" teams are (remember - Big Ten teams have players from the same states as those conferences). Regardless, two months (January and February) out of the year are terrible, but all you're doing during those two months is studying and lifting anyway regardless of where you're going to school, so why does it matter?

Minnesotans follow success, and I can prove it. You are probably too young to remember our Gopher basketball team that went to the final four in 97. I know it supposedly never happened, but we as fans didn't know any better at the time and showed up at the arena by the thousands to welcome our team home after they beat UCLA in the regional final. Who does that?

Our Gopher Hockey team sells out every game, as does the NHL team (despite only mediocre success). In 1987 our MN Twins had 43,000 people show up with only a few hours notice to welcome the team after winning the AL pennant.

Yeah, our Coordinators are new, but I would consider two of them "up-and-coming" and the third determined to prove detractors wrong. They will work, and work, and work to make you as successful as you want to be - the rest will be up to you, but you will have the support of the coaches, fans, and academic staff available to make success possible.

Our head coach talks, and talks a lot, and that turns some people here off about him, but I think that's because it is so different than what Minnesotans are used to. We're confident folks, but want people to know we're confident w/o having to tell them. He just tells you flat out and that takes courage in this town. Regardless, he wants to win and if he is trying to get you to come here then he believes you can make a difference here.

Our stadium won't be the biggest, but it will be loud and it will be maroon and gold from top to bottom. Have you heard our band when our opponents are facing a third down? It'll send chills down your spine.

We fans want you here. WE WANT YOU HERE!

I nominate this for Post of the Century! BTW, IMO we have an EXCELLENT student section. They showed up in the thousands this year.

May I also note that the Gopher faithful overran Kansas City, San Antonio, and Indianapolis during that Final Four run.

Excellent post, sir.

Indeed a great post! The people of Minnesota are dying to embrace the states only D1 football program. Come and make us the winner that we are starving for!!

The tears where streaming down my face as I read TCF's post, right up to the reference about the band....then I had to laugh!

Come to Minnesota and get us to the Rose Bowl.....otherwise nobody will come to the games to support you.

We will bring you the finest meats and cheeses in all the land. This I promise you

Or you could go to Wisconsin or Iowa and still play a home game at TCF Bank Stadium because half the stadium will be cheering for the Badgers or Hawkeyes. I even heard NDSU has a home game in Minneapolis on a rare occasion.

OR you could go anywhere and still read unoriginal trash talk from ORGopher on Gopherhole.com!

McGopherFan, I agree - attractive is attractive, regardless, and the U has plenty. MN just has an abundance of blonde scandanavians.

Come on TCF...you honestly didn't think some of us would take a couple of shots at your "plea to recruits" that was posted on a message board site for folks like me that have a little too much time on our hands this afternoon. If we really believe our opinions matter on this site then we clearly have overestimated our importance to society. It is fine to have a place to share opinions, ask questions and even let out some frustration (as I know I have), but to really take this site too seriously is a little over the top.

OR, no I don't take it too seriously - are you kidding me? Nor should you take my jab back too seriously.

My post was more a plea of desperation - after a long drive home last night, I was bummed to learn about two guys going elsewhere (Nosa & Edwards).

I do like our band though. Not to get on another topic, but the shameless tv timeout promotions have to go (elderly folk being asked to kick 35 yard field goals?) by way of the Metrodome. TCF Stadium should equal legitimate revenue, which should equal no more embarrassing promotions.

Unfortunately I am afraid the shameless promotions will continue. While TCF will allow for additional revenue, Minnesota is still chasing a lot of Big Ten schools in that area when you consider the upgrades being made to the other facilities around the conference (separte discusion - see Michigan's 50 new sky boxes).

I agree and while I am excited to attend games in the new stadium, I think we talk about it and think it will wow recruits as much as it does us gopher fans. We are used to the dome so it is a huge improvement for us but a recruit who has never experienced a game in the dome may just view it as a nice new small stadium but may not be blown away like they might at Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, etc.. where they pack in 100,000 plus every week.

Oregon attracts very good players to their 55,000 seat stadium.

Plus, the amenities for the players and their families at TCF might be the best in the country.

Well, yes ... it's 50,000 seats, but it will still easily be the nicest D-1 football stadium.

The only reason other places are larger is becuause there is absolutely nothing else to do. No wonder the staff of TN gets paid so much. They have to live in Knoxville.

Uh, have you seen their facilities paid for by Oregon alum and Nike founder Phil Knight. You can search for them online and see shots of them, they are viewed by many as the nicest facilities in the country.

How many other stadiums have you seen, it will be nice but to say it will be the nicest may be a stretch? Athletes also want to have good facilities besides just the stadium, which includes weight room, lounges, tutoring center, training table, etc..

While TCF will be shiny new, many other stadiums have gone through ridiculously nice overhauls.

We have a really good school in a really good town with a really nice stadium. Lots of teams have these things. Other factors come in to play (playing time for one!), but hopefully our coaches and players are able to make strong connections with those they are recruiting. That's as big of a key as a lot of other things.

I have actually been to Autzen Stadium at Oregon, and yes, while it is 55,000 seats, it is an unbelievable atmosphere because everyone is into the game. I think we have all experienced the 80-year olds at the Dome that yell for people to sit down during a big 3rd-down. Hopefully that doesn't continue in the new stadium.

Also, GopherGod is right. Phil Knight has paid for things at Oregon that TCF can not even compete with.
