Cal just started playing on ESPN2

Yep. Officially terrified after that Best run. Can we play a D3 team instead?

Oh man. Throwing up in my mouth right now.

Maybe Best will have the flu or something.

It's Cal over Maryland, 24-6 with 1:30 left in the first half. They're pretty darned impressive on both sides of the ball. Gulp.

Make that 31-6 with 25 seconds left in the first half..........I guess we'll see what we are made of.

We're gonna get creamed...Maryland is a much more solid team then we are and Cal is treating them like Miami (OH).......

Will they start a running clock when we're down by 200?

Best as of 14 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter: 9 rushes for 131 yards. Eff my life.

wow. Cal is good. Damn good.

hopefully not so good on the road.....

Our really difficult schedule is looking more and more difficult by the minute.

First Syracuse proves to be quite a matchup, then Air Force opens with a perfect football game, now Cal is completely owning a very respectable Maryland squad.

Yikes.

Entering big10 play at 2-1 seems pretty good right about now. 3-0 will take some serious work/luck.

I was still very confident with us playing AF even after this sloppy win until I seen them put up 72 points, that's just insane I don't care who you're playing. I remember us putting up 63 against Indiana in 2006.......

If we can stop the run we'll be good but dammit we have to score, lol.......

I have tickets to the Cal games in NoCal and the Gophers can beat them but it will be tough. The key will be the ability to win the defensive line early--the QB will make bad decisions under pressure. Go Gophers!

IMO, based on week #1 Cal is very easily the best team in the country.

we will rape cal...mark my words

nice.....yeah I can't wait to see that happen. Maybe you should go visit the Maryland boards:

They said the same thing.....Cal is soft.....Best is trash......then something happened tonight. Seriously we need a strong SOS so we need you guys to be good as well as MD, but after watching your game.....unless Syracuse became a good team all of a sudden or your team makes a big leap forward in the next few weeks I just don't see it. Cal is much much improved in almost every area this year. The only weakness we have is that our LB's are a lil soft in the run stuffing. Besides that we are deeper and stronger than most Cal fans predicted. Our expectations were high going into this season, but they just got a whole lot higher.

Let me repeat what I've been saying for a year:

Is it too late to replace Cal with a 1-AA team? Why are we playing them? Are we insane? We knew the B10 schedule would be brutal.

This isn't cowardice. This is being rational. We're too thin and too shallow to play this many games against top opponents.

Return

Maybe Brewster should've stuck to the cupcake formula and tried to get better at Big 10 play first before scheduling harder non-conference opponents.......QUOTE]

I believe this is simply the return game from when we played at CAL in '05 or '06, right? I don't believe Brewster was involved in getting this game scheduled.

Cal fan here. Just wanted to say hello, and good luck in two weeks. Caught a bit of your guys' game against Syracuse on TV the other day. Being a homer, I do think Cal should win, but anything can happen in two weeks. Plus, historically, we perform worse on the road (as I suspect most teams do). Last year, talent-wise, we were arguably a more talented team than MD but we were absolutely pasted on their home turf... that final score was much closer than the actual game indicated. So... bottom line is that anything can happen. Here's hoping to a fun, clean game in two weeks!

Hope it's a good game, been looking forward to this since 2006. That was a very exciting game until the 3rd Quarter but it was fun to watch and see us playing some Top 10 competition.......

I can't remember when Cal was scheduled, but my guess is that when that happened they were not the national power that they are now. What's done is done, it would make us look like cowards to have backed out of the game just because we didn't want to play a good team. Personally, I like it and am excited.

Nice win at Syracuse for the Gophs. Cal owed Maryland big time for last season, but it's still too early to tell how good the Bears are or can be. Won't learn much about Cal until they play Minnesota. Need to see how well they play on the road. Best of luck with the opening of the new stadium. Rooting hard for UM vs AFA.

Brewster had nothing to do with the Cal games being on the schedule. These
games were scheduled during the Mason regime.

Minnesota probably scheduled this series back in 2003-2005 when it looked like the program had taken a step forward for good. Minnesota was beating Oregon and Alabama in bowl games. A program like Cal would have looked like a very winable game, and a way to gain national exposure. Back then, the Big Ten dominated and was more anxious for opportunities to demonstrate it.

If Minnesota can find a way to beat Air Force, this could still be a very high-profile game. Despite the ESPN 2, 11 AM slot, this is a game that football fans all over the country are going to watch. It's a tough game, but a huge opportunity.

It's no mistake that ABC is carrying Minnesota vs. Penn State on the 10 years anniversary of the legendary upset. Beating Cal would be a similar win.

My apologies. Amy (short for amythicalprogram) is a notorious Cal troll. Doesn't every school have a bandwagon troll?!?

Not sure of all the details, but allegedly daddy is a big-time Cal donor who's resented and despised by his sickly weasel of a son. Amy didn't have the grades for Cal and takes that and his daddy issues out every week on the board of Cal's next opponent. Amy's been banned so many times that it's hard to keep up with the many aliases, but MoreN is definitely one of the dozens. Starts innocently enough with a passive aggressive flame like when did Minnesota last go to the Rose Bowl (two years after Cal's last trip) or how did Minnesota build a new stadium with minimal problems. Misspelling Berkeley as Berkley or refering to it as Cal State are typical tactics. Placed Amy or ignore here and won't respond again. Sorry.

That's a shame. I was excited to see a Cal fan actually say we had a chance to win. :D

There was once an alleged sighting of Amy at the USC game in Berkeley and he was wearing a red plaid Grumpy Old Men/Elmer Fudd earflapped hunting cap. I'd therefore assume for Minnesota he'd go with some kinda surfer get up. If you see a guy dressed like a surfer/pirate yammering on in piratese on talk like a pirate day, please feel free to pop him. It may not be Amy, but it's likely to be one of my friends who will be pissing us off severely all freaking day. Do not try and stop us while we're giving him a swirly in the Senator Craig stall at halftime. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
