televise their home games. BYU now an independent is going the way of Notre Dame. I don't see Notre Dame ever joining a conference now.

We'll see how this goes for BYU, but I don't know that it has any imact on Notre Dame. Much depends on the quality of BYU's home games. They had been planning on playing abut half of their games against WAC teams, and I can't imagine that those games are going to be tremendous ratings bonanzas on ESPN. Just because they are on ESPN doesn't mean they will be on a good ESPN timeslot or or a good ESPN channel.

This is an addition to the fact that BYU has there own TV station on campus that reaches 55 million homes. I'm guess those are mostly Mormon homes. Texas is also starting their own station. How long before Texas goes it alone? That's why I said Notre Dame will never join a conference when others are going the way they went.

Notre Dame wasn't going to stop being independent anyways. People who see the Big Ten expanding to 16 are really reaching. The Big 12 (Ten) may go to 16 with some combo of the Mountain West at some point, but the Big Ten would have a hard time finding schools that actually increase avg revenue per teams.

BYU has also signed a contract to play Texas and a 6 year agreement with Notre Dame.

Notre Dame does have more of a built-in base, as 25% of the country is Catholic, while 1.7% are Mormons. Both have a nationwide audience.

I'm in the minority with this, but I don't want Notre Dame anywhere near the Big Ten. If BYU helps with this, I am all for it.

The BYU TV station goes to so many homes because its on Direct TV. I have the channel, but I've never watched it. I'm sure the same is for 98% of direct TV subscribers.

ESPN will broadcast the major games in prime time...I'm sure the BYU/TX and other games like that will get nice Saturday prime time slots....The BYU/San Diego State game....that has 9 pm Wednesday night written all over it.....

The only way it impacts ND at all is that they can play each other in October/November when the rest of the world is playing league games.

Not sure about your percentages, but I'm guessing there's a much more loyal following of BYU among Mormons than there is a following of Notre Dame among Catholics. Being Catholic, I can tell you that the only people I know who are Notre Dame fans are alums.
