Just reviewing some of the Iowa game on dvr. Shortell definitely had Barker and underthrew him and it's too bad it got picked. The D back definitely made a better play on the ball than Barker did. Still, Iowa punted after that. The next series was the huge miss to Crawford-Tufts, that would have been big, upon review Shortell had to get rid of that sooner than he wanted, the right guard got smoked and the D lineman was right there, I think Shortell recognized this and got rid of it quicker than he wanted to.Missed him by about 4 yards.
Stoudemire repeated one of his mistakes against UNLV on the next kickoff deciding to try and run it out from deep in the endzone (trying too hard to make a play instead of playing smart) and led to Gophs starting on the 4 yard line! Then, on third down Shortell hits Engel between the numbers for a first down and it flat bounces off his chest. Finally, on the next series on third down Shortell hits Engel on the Iowa sideline and the play is reviewed and they uphold the call on the field of incomplete, from my slow mo it was a catch, although again Shortell hit him perfect and it bounced a little off his chest again which caused the incomplete call from "live eyes" but he still had it before he went out and it shouldn't have even come to that because he should have caught it cleanly.
Basically, no one stepped up and made a play. The opportunites where there, it's just that guys need to make the plays. Can't wait for the next test! This team is definitely better than last year. As someone fairly new to this forum, I am pretty surprised at how a lot of people react to a game like the Iowa one. I'm enjoying watching this team grow over the last year and a half. Bye week is coming at a great time, can't wait for second half of the season. Go Gophers!!!
