I would think Northwestern will be overmatched in this one but a heads up to tune in and see Butler tonight.

Am really looking forward to this game tonight, mostly to see how NW starts figuring out how to play without Coble. If the Wildcats win tonight, what would that say about Butler? It certainly would speak well of NW (and the Big 10) if they pull off the upset.

If it doesn't say Wisconsin or Iowa on the jersey, I'm cheering for Big 10 teams in the non-conference 99 times out of 100. But this is the one exception.

It's going to be a tough year for Northwestern, and if they somehow beat Butler, it diminishes a Gopher victory should they beat Butler, especially in terms of public perception. It's tough to argue that beating a good Butler team (one that handled Northwestern with ease) wouldn't look better on the NCAA resume than beating Northwestern twice, despite Northwestern beating Butler.

While you could argue that the Northwestern win might buoy their RPI, making those games better for the Gophers in conference play, I think Northwestern will lose enough games this year that the minimal game to their RPI, taken from the Minnesota perspective, is outweighed by what it would mean to beat Butler and be one of the few teams to beat them this season.

I'm looking forward to this one too. With all the preseason publicity Butler has been getting, and with the loss of Coble, I was surprised to see the oddsmakers had Butler only favored by 2-1/2 points in the paper today (4 points for our contest) - perhaps the bookies know something that the sports experts in the media don't know - tonight's game will tell. Go Wildcats !! (I probably jinxed the Cats by picking them in our contest).

I'm rooting for the Wildacts. But there's really no way I can pick them or see them winning without Coble. The only reason NW beat us and Mich St last year was because of Coble's crazy lucky antics. Remember the turn around fadeaway from 18 that banked in? Yeah, that was not pretty. They don't have the athletes or the scorers to keep up with Butler.

Butler never blows anyone out
Butler is still pretty young and playing on the road
Northwestern plays a different tricky style of ball

I think this one will be close and could go either way

87-62 Butler

No way Butler scores 87. The game last year was in the 50's, and the most points NW gave up all of last year was 77 to Michigan State. Say what you want about NW, but Carmody's players know how to guard.

I'll go BU - 68, NW - 61.
