"Lane Kiffin is having a really bad week. First, DE Malik Jackson decides to transfer to Tennessee — the same place still so angry with Kiffin that some fans is trying to raise money to put up a billboard taunting him in Los Angeles.
Then he had to release Seantrel Henderson from his letter of intent when it became clear the highly prized offensive lineman wanted nothing to do with the Trojans.
Now, yet another apology to nemesis UF.
USC athletic director Mike Garrett has sent a letter to UF athletic director Jeremy Foley, apologizing for falsely accusing the Gators of illegally contacting freshman Dillon Baxter. Garrett also apologized to Alabama, which also was wrongly accused.
Last month, USC claimed five schools had illegally contacted Baxter shortly after the NCAA levied its sanctions on the program. UF, Alabama and Oregon vehemently denied the charges.
Though Garrett’s name is on the letter, this clearly is an apology on behalf of Kiffin and the football program. Where else would the information be leaked? It’s hard to imagine Baxter letting it be known he was illegally contacted.
Kiffin has stoked the flames with UF before, and had to apologize before after falsely accusing the football staff of violating NCAA rules in the recruitment of Nu’Keese Richardson."
