"Vols avoid the bad loss."

Isn't Georgia #3 in the SEC or something like that? Extremely weak conference outside of Florida and maybe UK.

Yes, Georgia is currently 3rd in the SEC standings.

I'll frame it this way. If the Gophers lose to Illinois tonight at home, should we consider it a bad loss? (FWIW I would)

Georgia (#93) has a similar RPI to Illinois (#89), the difference as you noted is Georgia plays in a much weaker conference.

True. I just find it hard to believe how a major conference can be so awful outside of a couple teams. B10 last place team has a better RPI than SEC #3.

Losing to a top 100 team is not and should not be considered a bad loss.

There are 349 teams in the division.

Big picture, I agree with you.

But this late in the season, I would not advise a bubble team losing at home to an opponent that is 3-10 and in last place in its conference, even if they're in the RPI top 100. ... even moreso when your resume is deficient in top-100 wins.

To help the Gophers RPI...

GO SYRACUSE. Beat BC.
Go Lehigh, beat Navy.
GO Coastal Carolina. Beat Winthrop!
GO ARKANSAS, BEAT South Carolina.

Losing to 3-10 Illinois at home is a bad loss. No ifs ands or butts.

This is as much a must-win as Indiana was. It'll be hard to envision beating OSU or Iowa (which would become mandatory) if we can't beat Illinois.

Yes (and Illinois' RPI doesn't matter to Minnesota's RPI).

Yes. The RPI itself doesn't matter. Illini's record matters from an SOS standpoint of course because it affects our SOS which in turn affects our RPI... but anywho....

SelectionSunday, don't you normally do daily bubble watch updates starting some time around this time of year? I love those. No other feature like it on the web.

I missed a couple days here. I needed a quick respite after the Gophers' stinker vs. Illinois.

I'll get back on schedule shortly with the weekend report. Thanks.

Yeah and there 10th place team (that's the way most people on here would see the standings based on what I remember from last spring) dominated us....outscoring us by almost 20 points in the second half of a neutral site game earlier this year.
