The Gophers are still in good shape for a NCAA bid despite last night's debacle, but the tide could change in a hurry if they lose in Columbus on Saturday. So today I offer a free preview of what will become a (almost) daily feature beginning next Monday, but only if the Gophers fall to the Buckeyes.

So what should Gopher fans be pulling for tonight. ...

1. Charlotte over Rhode Island (URI potential at-large)
2. Eastern Washington over Sacramento State (every little bit helps)
3. Georgia Tech over Florida State (FSU potential at-large)
4. Michigan over Penn State (don't want Nitts in the mix for top-5 Big 10 finish)
5. New Mexico State over Utah State (Aggies could be bid stealer if lose in WAC tourney)
6. North Dakota State over Western Illinois (Bison getting into RPI top 100 would be helpful)
7. Oregon State over Arizona (U of A back in the hunt for NCAA bid)
8. San Francisco over St. Mary's (Gaels potential at-large)
9. South Dakota State over IUPUI (every little bit helps)
10. Washington over Cal (Oski potential at-large)
11. Wazzu over Stanford (The Tree potential at-large)
12. Wisconsin over Illinois (Illini one of the teams Gophs battling for BTT bye)
13. Xavier over Temple (Owls potential at-large)

I still think we're in, even if we lose to OSU. As long as we got home covered, we got enough solid wins to get in at-large. Our seeding may not be great, but we're not close to a bubble team right now.

I agree the Gophers are nowhere near the bubble at this point. I'll still have them safely in the field even with a loss on Saturday. But if they lose, they'll be getting perilously close to having no margin for error. I'm not ready to assume the Gophers will win their four remaining home games, though it's certainly possible. Indiana, yes, but the other three I could see going either way.

Hey Double-Ess,

Just wanted to send out some kudos. Thanks for posting stuff like this... Items such as these enhance my life as a basketball fan; you have my gratitude.

This is very nice SS! Will you be posting the results of these games when they have been concluded? I know beggars can't be choosers. I just recall you doing a significant amount of this in year's past but, because of my hiatus from this board over the past year, I cannot remember how much time you invested or whether you posted results...

I'll tell you that the two Big Ten games went in our favor. Michigan beat PSU handily and Wisconsin did the same to Illinois.

Last night 5 of 13 games went the Gophers' way

Some of the most important results occurred in the Gophers' favor. ...

Michigan over Penn State (helps our top-5 Big 10 finish chances)
Wisconsin over Illinois (ditto as above)
Xavier over Temple

However, potential bubble teams Arizona, Cal, Florida State (looking more solid every day), Rhode Island, St. Mary's & Stanford all won.

Will resume the Bubble Watch on Monday if the Gophers lose to the Buckeyes. Here's hoping this was the only time.

In the meantime, in a perfect world here's how I'd want the Big 10 games (not involving the Gophers) to shake down this weekend, in order of importance:

1. Purdue over Illinois (Gophs want Purdue & MSU to beat teams 3-9 because of potential bad tie-breakers)
2. UConn over Michigan (usually pull for Big 10 but don't want UM to get another quality NC win)
3. Wisconsin over Penn State (1st let's get Nitts out of the equation, then hopefully Gophs take care of Badgers later)
4. Iowa over Northwestern (help take Wildcats out of the NCAA mix)
5. Michigan State over Indiana (doesn't really matter)

Agree totally with Kramer,

Thank you to SS AND MN Snowman for all that they do here at GH. The site definitely would not be what it is without you two!

It also looks like NDSU won, which is in your "every little bit helps" column.

NDSU

Is smack dab #100 in the RPI. Top 100 wins are helpful. Let's hope the Bison continue to drop that RPI.
