Thursday's Results

Pitt 58, Marquette 51
St. Mary's 61, San Diego 49
USC 67, Washington 64
Vanderbilt 82, Ole Miss 78

Friday's Slate
#45 William & Mary at Iona, 8 p.m. (ESPNU)

The Skinny: Marquette, Ole Miss and U-Dub all suffer critical home losses. St. Mary's keeps hope alive with a road win over lowly San Diego. ... Big one for William & Mary tonight @ Iona in the Bracket Buster. Would be a decent win for the Tribe, as Iona currently is #97 in the RPI and in second place in the MAAC. W&M has a legitimate shot at an at-large bid if it can win out.

BRACKET BUSTER

Other than the start of the NCAAs, my favorite weekend of the b-ball season. I jsut love the match-ups! Since I'm a Drake fan also, I will be following their game against Cal State-Northridge closely. It doesn't matter that they are out of it, just an interesting game. Similarly, Northern Iowa vs. Old Dominion doesn't matter much to the N. IA Panthers, but still an interesting game. Missouri Valley teams every yera seem to do pretty well in the Bracket Buster.

Okay- yesterday (before beating Wisconsin) I had nearly left them for dead.... but how many more wins before the Gophers make your Bubble Watch? Beat Indy and Purdue?

If the Gophers beat Indiana, they'll be back on the watch next week. Conversely, if Northwestern loses to Wisconsin on Sunday, the Wildcats drop off the watch.

Gophers' RPI improved by 7 spots (now #76) after last night's win.

What did the Badgers fall to?

A lower seed, probably, and officially out of the Big 10 race. It's now a 2-team sprint to the finish, 3 if OSU wins at Breslin this weekend.

Badgers didn't fall much, now #19.

Hard to believe that we will be 'back on the watch' next week if we win tonight. This time of year I start paying a lot more attention to your Selection Watch.

I know we should play them one at a time but I can't resist asking a 'what if' question.

We go 4-1 to finish the regular season 10-8 in B10 - (Lose to PU and somehow beat IL & MI on the road.) We win one in the BTT (win over Penn St). 20-12 Overall.

Do we have a chance to DANCE?

Not at 20-12.

At 21-12 with wins over Purdue, Wisky, OSU Butler and a nice friday win in BTT gets us in.. RPI would be much higher than 60's / 70's. Assuming RPI is sub 50....name the other 64 teams that would be in the tourney given the scenario mentioned above. Its not as black and white as folks make it seem.

yes, there are many factors, how other bubble teams are doing, how many upsets there are in the smaller conference tourneys. If we are 10-8, with a win over Purdue, and then win 1 game in the BTT, wow it would put us right on the bubble. But if something like Butler, Siena, Old Dominion, Northern Iowa all lose their conference tourneys, then NO WAY we make it.
