per Dienhart:

Speaking of interim head coaches, Minnesota no longer has one, taking the “interim” tag off Tracy Claeys and making him the full-time coach. A good move by a university that like Illinois is operating with an interim A.D. Beth Goetz, who has done a good job leading the department since taking over in less-than-ideal circumstance in August after the ouster of Norwood Teague. I hope like Claeys that Goetz can get the full-time job in the Twin Cities as the school embarks on the construction of an ambitious Athletic Village in hopes of taking the department to the next level.

Go Gophers!!

The school should do a full search and there due diligence. with that said after all of that would not have an issue with Beth Goetz getting the full time gig.

What does deinhart know? I just think he is a knob.
That said i don't disagree with him. I like goetz.

Agree that while it made complete sense to forgo a search and hire Claeys, the U needs to fully explore its options before handing the reigns to Goetz. If they do the search and she comes out as the top candidate then great.

At the risk of sounding cynical, a university facing Title XI and gender-equity issues might consider hiring a female AD for the sake of appearances, whether she is "the best person for the job" or not.

I've gone back and forth on the search issue. The last 2-ADs were hired after a search - none of us liked how those went. Goetz has brought the Athletic Dep't through a very difficult time and she's done great. Put that on top of the fact that she's a known commodity, it makes a lot of sense.

The question that keeps swirling in my mind, is what do I not like about the job Beth Goetz is doing as interim AD in addition to her regular duties? The answer is none.

Save the university some dollars. It makes sense to appoint her as the next AD. It is a risk worth taking. She will bring some stability and is already involved with the athletic village project, etc... and she and Claeys already have a good working relationship.

I've heard that Beth does not want to be the full time AD. Same source in Columbus that said Claeys would get a 3 year deal and it would be announce next week.

Huh? Does want, or does not want? What is there to announce if she does not want the job?
