So for whatever reason the BTN is showing the Michigan-Akron game this Saturday in my area even though our market nearly reaches up into MN and the school we are playing is only 40 miles from here.

Other than the aggievision, what has been everyone's experience using BTN2Go? I just want to make sure it won't be bad if I decide not to go to the bar to watch the game.

I live in Indiana now and have not had access to either Gophers game on the tube, so I've gotten familiar with BTN2Go. Other than the HUGE outage on Saturday afternoon (obviously a very bad black eye for the service), I've enjoyed it. I watched the entire UNLV game and the 2nd half of the NMSU game (after service was restored) on my iPad and though it was a nice experience. I was also flipping between a variety of BT games both weekends and enjoyed it.

There was a report last week that prior to the game with NMSU that the server went down. Personally I didn't have BTN2Go, but it was reported here on the Gopherhole.

BTN2Go isn't bad. If you have a good connection, you will be fine. If your connection lags, it will frustrate you to no end.

I watched most of the weekday Gopher basketball games on BTN2GO last year, it tends to lag a few seconds behind cable/satellite so it made twitter conversations annoying. Besides that, with a good connection the video quality is great.

+1

Since Comcast just added BTN2Go to my options I look forward to having access to all B1G games. Can't judge it based upon Saturday's server mess and the AggieVision comedy. Hopefully that was the low point for the forseeable future.

Thanks guys. I really don't want to have to go to the bar to watch it around a bunch of already drunk Iowa and Iowa St. fans. Their big rivalry game is this Saturday.

I still don't understand why the Gophers game isn't on BTN here but whatever.

Combine it with Apple TV and its great

+1. You can throw it to your TV from your IPad or IPhone with Apple TV. Your Phone or IPad are the remote as well so you don't need an RF 'line of sight' to the device - you can put it in a closet.

Forgive me, what is Apple TV?

It's...kind of hard to describe. It's $100 and has a ton of entertainment apps. WatchESPN, Netflix, HuluPlus, HBO GO, NHL Network, MLB Network, NBA Network, WSJ, etc. Granted, you need to actually purchase a subscription to those services, but things like WatchESPN are free as long as you have cable.

We bought one as a replacement for our cable subscription (well worth it when you consider that we barely watched TV and it costs just about as much as we were spending on cable each month). I've heard that some people just use a close friend's cable login/password (for a nominal fee) to access WatchESPN, but I would have no idea about anything like that.

Honestly, we just use it as a Netflix/HBO/ESPN box. Plus, as stated above, you can sync it with your iPhone/iPad so that you can stream videos from your device to the TV (like BTN2GO, for example).

I wouldn't really recommend it as a supplement to cable, but it's a great replacement if you don't care about all the filler channels.

The app is poor. I have to delete it and install each time I want to use it. 2/3 of the time it will not recognize my log in. Frustrating. I will not be home for the game and doubt if I will be able to see on btn2go. I am recording both btn supplemental stations because they don"t tell you which game is on which channel

I wonder if your phone is the issue? I've never had one issue with the app. Other than the server issue last week, I've watched lots of games on both my smart phone and my laptop with it and picture quality is unreal and the stream is almost always good (every now and then it gets choppy, but not much).

You can always find which channel the game is one by using the Game Finder webpage: http://btn.com/about/btn-gamefinder/

This. I have a lightning fast connection because I work from home and it works great. I wish the replay feature was easier to use, specifically jump around. It would at least be nice to have a "go 30 seconds back" feature. If you want to rewatch a play, good luck. You'll drag the little ball (on the timeline) as delicately as possible and find yourself back 10 minutes.

Does your cable provider doesn't offer alternate sports channels? If they do, I'm betting you might find the Gopher game on one of them.

The Game Finder on BTN always lists an alternate channel but in the 4+ years I've had the BTN, I've never seen a Big Ten game broadcasted on that channel. Not sure why it is listed if they never play a BTN game and I've emailed the BTN several times about this. I've never received an email back.

I would think that's a cable provider issue. I'd call them and ask about the big ten network alternate channels. Do some providers not have the alternate channels?

Agreed, call your cable provider.

I'm sure there are some who don't, but I've yet to encounter anyone with digital cable who hasn't had at least 1 alternate choice. That's a worthless anecdotal observation if GophersInIowa is under the one provider determined to ruin things though.

Yeah I'm not sure. The channel they list as the alternate is the Mediacom local channel. It carries a lot of High School games in the market and stuff like that.

So I calledl Mediacom last night and talked to a lady about it. She couldn't figure out what I was talking about and kept telling me the BTN is on channel 71. I kept saying "Yeah, I know that" but she still said it at least 3 or 4 times. After about 15 minutes and being put on hold twice, I just gave up.

Sigh...again, my condolences. Everything I've ever heard is that Mediacom sucks. This isn't helping that anecdotally based opinion.

I've given up on cable. Hopefully on our next move we can get direct tv or dish network. Way too expensive and terrible service.

I love DirecTV. Decent customer service and predictable product service. I have struggled with them a bit when I have made changes in the past (upgrading receivers, adding HD, etc.) that require someone to come to my house. But, once things are up and running it is pretty much "fire and forget". Like it a lot.

I do have to deal with the dreaded Mediacom for internet and it is a joke. We have Mediacom internet at home, and some podunk rural service for internet at our cabin. The internet at our cabin in the rural north woods on a lake is MUCH more reliable than our good 'ole Mediacom provided internet here in the metro area. It goes out constantly, for no apparent reason. About the only thing their customer service is good for is rapidly getting the "we know about the outage in your area" phone recorded messages loaded up so they don't have to talk to anyone.

i haven't read the rest of this thread, so i apologize if this was already addressed, but don't you get the BTN alternate channels from your cable/satellite company. i used to have comcast cable, and now have directv, and we received all of the additional BTN alternate/overflow channels through both of those providers. so we can always get the gopher game (i.e. since we live in minneapolis) plus all the other conference games that may be airing on BTN at the same time.

The BTN game finder shows that the Gophers will be on an "alternate" channel but it has been like that before and no game has been shown. In fact, I've never seen a BTN football game on this channel in 4+ years even though they list games on the fame finder all the time. Either the BTN website is wrong or Mediacom is screwing up. I'm guessing its the latter.

I really like this idea. I'm hoping to bypass 2 problems: (1) BTN is not in HD in Nor Cal and (2) the W Ill game is not broadcast in Nor Cal.

But I have a problem I wonder if anyone can help me with. I downloaded the BTN2GO app onto my IPad and it works fine except I cannot view any content. When I select some content to view, like a replay of the NMSU game, I'm asked to log onto my provider for authorization. Comcast in this case. When I log into Comcast, I get the message "User is not authorized for this content". When I try the same thing on my desktop, it works fine and I can watch that content.
So a Comcast authorization from my desktop is OK, but authorization from my IPad is not.

Perhaps someone has had the same issue and solved it - I hope so.

Thanks.

Try giving Comcast a call? Their customer service isn't terrible.
