Minnesota QB Mitch Leidner overcame a slow start to hit 23-of-45 passes for 233 yards and two TDs. He also ran 11 times for 47 yards. Leidner hit KJ Maye for a 22-yard scoring pass with 55 seconds left to give Minnesota a 20-17 lead. CSU tied the game at the final gun to force overtime, where the Gophers won it, 23-20.

Go Gophers!!

That's not possible. I heard posters say he sucked.

He was marvelous in that last drive. Absolutely marvelous. However, he completely stunk up the joint the rest of the game. I for one, don't want to rely on a QB whose performance is that hit or miss.

you are delusional if you watched the game and think Mitch's stats were a good representation of his play today. How many of his completed passes were thrown 5 yards or more down the field, truth is, besides that last drive he stunk, and coaches helped him out by giving him short out passes and let the receivers make the plays afterwards. I'm not on the boat that says Mitch needs to be replaced for whoever because honestly I don't know how talented the guys behind him are, but I'm on the boat that says we will not take that next step if Mitch is the best we can do at the QB position in the foreseeable future. I do think kill should seriously consider recruiting another QB in this class because lets face it, Streveler is not a QB at this level. If anything it increases the odds someone ends up being a stud QB.

When watching "The Final Drive" I couldn't believe how they praised him. Yeah he had some good stats but he stunk up the joint majority of the game. A couple of those short passes out of the backfield he missed had me literally yelling at my TV for Jerry to pull him.

Same here. I couldn't believe they way they were talking. They just lost credibility in my book.

Damn you Mitchell Leidner, you manificent bastard, How many hangovers yesterday after watching that.

I was shocked to see that stat line this morning. Not nearly as bad as I expected.

The last drive wasn't the only stretch where he was good although it was clearly one of his best stretches ever as a starter.

The cause for concern is that he wouldn't have that much margin for error against a higher quality team and probably all of the teams the Gophers will face during the conference season (with the possible exception of Purdue) are higher quality teams. With the possible exception of last year's TCU game (where he added three or four turnovers), Leidner's performance during the first six possessions yesterday was as bad of an extended stretch as we've ever seen from him as a starter. The good thing is that he could keep his focus and confidence enough to be really effective during the critical stretch.

The offensive line's performance was equally as inconsistent yesterday. At times they looked like they were in a state of total collapse but they really protected Leidner well and opened up holes late in the game.
