per BTN:
On Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET BTN airs “Big Ten Elite: 1979 Minnesota hockey” right after the Boston College-Minnesota men’s hockey game at 8 p.m. ET. Watch it to learn more about Minnesota coach Herb Brooks and one of the best college hockey teams ever to take the ice for Minnesota’s storied program.
Brooks had a roster full of homegrown Minnesota players – several of whom would play key roles on the 1980 US Olympic hockey team – and the 1979 Gophers team skated to a third national title in a six-year span. This one-hour show includes extended interviews with future 1980 US Olympic Team members Neal Broten, Mike Ramsey, Steve Janaszak, Rob McClanahan and Bill Baker among others as they take a trip down memory lane featuring highlights of the Gophers run to the national title.
In the portion of the show in this post, listen to how Herb Brooks landed blue-chip hockey classes at Minnesota and motivated hem to blaze through the 1979 season.
