The Golden Gophers will welcome a desperate Cornhuskers squad that has perfected the art of the gut-wrenching defeat. All four of the Huskers’ losses have come on foe’s final offensive play. And the four setbacks have been by a combined 11 points. As a result, Nebraska is 2-4 for the first time since 1959. Making a bowl may be a long shot. The Gophers may need to win this one with a brutal schedule remaining (Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin). They have won the last two meetings with Nebraska and are coming off a breakout effort in a 41-13 win at Purdue. It was the first time the Gophers scored more than 30 points in 2015. Look for Minnesota to run a lot after gashing Purdue for 326 yards on the ground with freshman sensation Shannon Brooks ambling for 176 yards. The Gophers have run for 552 yards combined against Nebraska the last two meetings. Good news for the Cornhuskers’ leaky pass defense: Minnesota’s feeble passing attack will pose no threat. Neither quarterback will arrive on Saturday with a glowing resume. Nebraska’s Tommy Armstrong is especially struggling. He completed just 21-of-59 passes for 234 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception in losses at Illinois and vs. Wisconsin. Minnesota’s Mitch Leidner was pulled at Northwestern as he continues to struggle with accuracy. However, he is coming off an 8-of-12 effort with two TDs at Purdue … but for just 59 yards.

Go Gophers!!

Yeah, this may be the easiest game remaining on the Gophers schedule with the exception of Illinois

Go Gophers!!
I do agree, we need this game....hopefully we are the more "desperate" of the two teams.
Take your "good news" and choke on it...we will gain the yards needed at the proper time versus their pass defense. "with two TDs at Purdue" will read similar versus Nebraska
not a fan the BTN writeup...lol

It's less daunting simply to just look at the next game. A lot can happen (injuries, suspensions, teams get better/worse) between now and when a team plays a future opponent. Maybe Michigan comes back down to earth a bit, maybe OSU never really kicks it into high gear like we're expecting them to?

I look at it this way. If the Gophers beat Nebraska and Northwestern beats Iowa -- both very possible -- the Gophers at worst will be tied for 1st in the West with Northwestern. Even with the head-to-head loss to the Wildcats, not a bad spot to be after 3 conference games?

Good points!!

Hopefully a combination of young players gaining experience and players getting healthy will make for a great rest of the season.

Good news

I think this game is going to be a repeat of last years Iowa game. Every thing is in order.

While I've been sick to my stomach watching this Gopher offense this year, I'm encouraged that the Gophers have rarely looked pretty during the Kill era. Many of the wins have been ugly, even against teams perceived to be worse than us. And the losses ... I mean, Illinois last year? How bad we looked against TCU last year? Yet, last season worked out okay. In 2013 we were manhandled by Iowa then lost to what seemed like a beatable Michigan team by 29. Then ran off four straight wins, including one over the Huskers.

This season's ugly does seem different -- the injuries and the fear of heaving the football more than six yards downfield. But why should this year be any different? Scoring seems low all over the Big Ten. Play defense, protect the ball and feed the freshman RBs. That just might work.
