Glenn Mason - it may be a long day for the Gophers and his other broadcasters seem to agree that Iowa's QB will be the difference... I love being the underdog - Gophers by 2 tds

The 12th man will be the difference maker.

Go Gophers! Beat Iowa!

wonder if the boys at BTN realize our QB's RAW QBRs are both 20 pts higher than rudock's.. hmmm...

Interesting how Glen Mason predicts us to lose, but yet had us as the #5 team in the conference this afternoon...

This game doesn't have a good feel for me right now. It's almost like our fanbase would be shocked with a loss and is defining it as a program changing game.

Iowa has 3 senior LBs that are good. Are we going to be able to run on them? If we can't, can we rely on the passing game? I think the passing game is probably better than what we've seen, but I don't think we can rely on it. Weisman is a beast that ran through us last year. Have we improved enough to keep him under 100 yards and 4 ypc? I'm not sure, but I'll be shocked if he doesn't get 25+ carries. Martin-Manley is an explosive receiver, the kind we don't have right now. Iowa has already gone on the road and won a tough rivalry game. We haven't done that yet.

I think the Gophers can win, but I'm not liking the match-up right now.

While I agree with you, last years game didn't tell the whole truth. We were probably the better team but ran into a buzzsaw. This years game could easily swing the other way. We are better than last year and iowa is too. The difference is, who made more improvement and now we're at home.

He didn't predict us to lose. I watched the show and the OP is a little off on what was said. There were no predictions, they were just asked who the X factors would be and Iowa's QB was one with Minnesota's passing game being the other.

wilson and campbell match up with weisman far far far far better than any of our lb's last year. they can actually lay the wood on him. martin manley can be locked up by wells/murray combo or we double him and make someone else beat us. their lb's are an issue, but if we are wise and utilize max with the pa fakes down the seam, they will be forced to loosen up which will help the ground attack tons. the passing game doesn't have to be much, but just enough to keep the lb's honest. honestly i'd love to see the pa seam pass first play of the game to take advantage of lb's looking to make a big tfl right from the get go. get the though in there from down number one. especially if leidner is starting

We have no passing game simply because we haven't needed to use it yet. Just because I don't use my shotgun, doesn't mean I don't have one.

If you can hit anything with that shotgun after keeping it in the closet for years is another story entirely. Sure we have a passing game in the playbook, but can we execute it? Not sure.

At home or on a neutral field Iowa should be favored, but I'm hoping that Homecoming will make the difference in our favor. If we win, it may be close. They have great linebackers and as John Galt pointed out, Weisman did a number on us last year.

I think we should come out passing on our first three plays or more. Just come out firing. Script them. If that's where Iowa is vulnerable, lets attack them. Come on Limey, there's no rule that you have to be predictable. Lets try keeping a defense off balance for a change instead of imposing your will. Plenty of time in the game but lets set the tone.

Saturday's forecast according to the National Weather Service:

Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

That could help the Gophers.

We have hundred of plays and schemes we haven't shown yet. They have been kept hidden from conference foes.

It will soon be time for the chocolate and strawberry offenses to come out.

Iowa is no better than us. The team with the least mistakes wins.

Leidner Says

Leidner said that they throw all the time in practice. I suspect that our coaches put only necessary packages in to the game plans. But you're right, the proof will be on the field.

I'm telling you, the play action pass will be on display early and often Saturday, then they wear them down on the ground in the second half. Leidner for 180+. There's a reason they have shown virtually NO play action so far. Saturday will be the time to open it up. The way Limegrover has called the games so far has set up things perfectly for PA when they need it most, like this Saturday

Here's a hint...get this to kill right away. IOWA FALLS FOR THE FAKE PUNK AT LEAST ONCE A GAME.

I personally think that they spent all of Saturday showing that empty backfield draw just to set up a "stroke the post" moment this Saturday.

Iowa's QB is quietly having a pretty good season. He had a tipped ball that was intercepted vs NUI and a couple other bad throws but seems to have improved with each game. He's making throws that #16 Vandenberg was not making last season. Seems to have a bit more moxie and knows when to step up in the pocket to buy more time. Something Vandenberg wasn't able to do last year. He's got a bit of a resume as well. Had some high accolades in HS

if it turns into a slogging match on a rainy field..Might favor the Hawkeyes..I consider Minnesota to have the more experienced WR corps...

Not sure about the TE though. How is MN's TE play this season?

Well maybe the Gophers have been hiding the passing game before heading into the conference schedule. The question is were they hiding it to use it as a weapon on a team that is not prepared, or were they hiding it because they don't do it very well. I think either way Iowa and then Michigan will stack the box to stop the run good passing game or not the Gophers have to take advantage of those situations by hitting some big plays down the field to keep teams honest.

Gophers sure could use some big plays from the special teams and defense to tip the scales. The one thing both teams have in common is that they have not beaten anyone with great talent.

More experienced does not always equal better. Martin-Manley himself gives Iowa better WR's in my opinion.
