Minnesota (0-1) at Colorado State (1-0) – 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS Sports. The Rams traditionally have one of the better non-Power Five programs. They are under new stewardship, with ex-Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo assuming command from Jim McElwain, who took the Florida gig. This is a dangerous game for Minnesota. Adding to the complexity is the fact the Gophers are coming off a rugged opener vs. TCU. This is really a no-win situation for Minnesota. Win, and few will be impressed. Lose, and, well …

It is a typical ooc game. The ONLY way to approach a game like this is in a very business-like way. This is a must win because this is a team the Gopher really must beat if they are going to be a competitive team in Big Ten Play. Yes, the Gopher will lose self-respect if the Gopher does not win this game. The Gopher will win the game. That is really all that matters about this game. It really doesn't matter if the Gopher wins by 21 points...or 3 points. There are NO bragging rights for this type of a game. Just win Gopher!

If it is a no-win situation, I guess we should forfeit and rest up for Kent St.

Don't WORRY the Gopher will crush the Ram in this GAME! But all that really matters is big ten WINS.

Very well done. You are learning.

Beat the stinking badger, Gopher!

Just win, baby. The rest will take care of itself.

Go Gophers!!

Disagree, CSU is respected after their season last year. If we go in and beat them pretty good, I think people who know college football will think of it as a good win.

We will rip them a new asshole. Our squad waited all year to play TCU and came up short by helping them beat us. I will be shocked if our defense gives up more than 10 points and our now trashed O-line does not go out and prove something. We go there to prove the hype is real. They are known to do a lot of trash talking and will pay a price for that.

If the Gophers beat CSU, I will find a way to console myself. I will fight back the tears as I cut into my steak.

Agreed. I'm not really sure how people can overlook all the factors at play. It's still a road game (how many times do we hear how team XX doesn't leave state YYY until late October, or something), in high altitudes, against a team with considerable offensive talent from last year, a new head coach with experience as a top level coordinator at a top program in the country (Georgia), and overall has earned a repuation the last two years as a difficult out (at worst) for a non-Power 5 team.

Losing should still be unacceptable. In contrast to playing a team like TCU (or USC or Cal or any of the other highly talented & ranked teams in the past), we cannot take any moral victories from this one. But, a win by 10+ points should still mean something. Especially if we follow it up with a strong showing in the final 2 tune-up games.

A convincing win is important but it still won't turn many heads nationally. CSU had a really good year last year and was decent the year before but they have not had the kind of sustained success that will get people really excited about a win against them. I see them as very similar to SJSU who had a nice run but the wheels came off pretty fast. A win over CSU is one that could look a lot better at the end of the year if they go on to finish with another great record but at the time it won't get much attention.

Regardless of all that it is really important for the teams confidence to win these next three games convincingly heading into Big Ten play. All 3 are very winnable so there really is no reason that we should be anything less then 3-1 heading to Northwestern if we play the way we are capable of playing. Of course anyone who watches football knows that if you have an off night you can lose to anyone and we are definitely not at a place as a program where we can win just by showing up.

If we win this game and CSU ends up 9-3 this year, it will be viewed as a good win.

edit: sorry, just noticed I basically restated what MNVCGUY posted.

A good solid victory might help increase attendance at the Kent State game. It's unlikely to sell out, sure, but the better the performance against CSU, the better attendance will be. A loss would hurt attendance.

I noticed a bit of that in the highlights of the SSU game. I was wondering who started it. It seemed a little childish considering they buried them so early.

Just a win might not turn many heads, but they have a well respected offense, shut that down and you've done something. Hold them to 17 points or less and it will be noted, win in a 38 to 35 shootout, people will yawn.

I like your enthusiasm, and it would be pretty awesome if the Gophers did indeed tear them a new one.

Just win--doesn't matter what anybody says about it. Obviously everyone wants to see improvement but get the damn victory.

Agreed would only add that the Gophers are only 5-6.5 point favorite. That is not the spread on a "gimme" or "no win" game
