Overrated: Minnesota. My, oh my. Pour me another glass of maroon Kool-Aid—and I’ll dump it over my head. I tabbed the Gophers No. 3 in the league behind Ohio State and Michigan State. Hey, Minnesota bubbled with big potential back in August coming off consecutive 8-5 seasons. Year Five of the Jerry Kill era looked to be the best yet for this surging program. Alas, injuries wreaked havoc on the defense. And they also hit the offensive line. The result? A highly disappointing 5-7 season that saw Kill abruptly step down to deal with his health issues, casting some doubt about the future of the program.

Go Gophers!!

Very difficult to disagree. Hopefully next year will see us Most Underrated

Shouldn't it be tOSU they were supposed to win the National Championship again. Didn't make the B1G Championship game and Iowa is in the Rose Bowl. Ouch.

Tough for argue. Guess Nebraska could make a case, but we started higher and they won more conference games

The lack of outrage is palpable.

Ohio St. had the same number of losses this year as they did last year, they just lost to a B1G team this year.

What??? Someone's disappointed with the season? Say it aint so!

Go back to rating them 13th in everything then :).

I know if the Gophers dropped from 4th to 7th in the regular season rankings from last year to this year, I'd be extremely pissed.

I know what you all are saying, can't disagree with you. My point was that the BTN looked at them as the shining light of the B1G blah, blah, blah... I am just still pissed about the penalty that suddenly wasnt.

Grasping for straws on that one.

Thee Ohio State University guys were picked to be #1 over all, and they are probably #5 overall. That's a drop of about 4-5 spots.
Gophers were picked to be a top 25 team. Maybe top 15. We're probably somewhere in the 60-80 range. That's a far bigger drop.

Gee, if the BTN Network says it is true, that it must be, I guess.

With all due respect, Nobody - outside of a few kool-aid chuggers - was talking about the Gophers as a top-25 team. Going into the season, the conventional wisdom was that the Gophers had a chance to take advantage of a supposedly weaker West Division. Some of the Gopher Fans on this board had completely unrealistic expectations for this year's team - and that was before the injuries.

Yes - it was a disappointing season - but it's not like the Gophers are some perennial power that dropped from 10-2 or 11-1 to 5-7. They dropped from 8-5 to 5-7. The flip side - if the Gophers come back next year and get 8 or 9 wins, the media (outside of the Twin Cities) will be praising Claeys for "bringing the program back."

True. Looking back, many of the "experts" had the Gophers getting 8-9 wins. Here is what ESPN guessed would happen.

"Overrated?"

If the team had been relatively injury free all year and still finished 5-7, that'd be fair criticism. Finishing 5-7 when you've been more or less gutted by injury, though - - -

"Disappointment" would be appropriate (b/c the injuries prevented us from finding out what the team was capable of); after that ...
