I watched the Gophers segment on Final Countdown last night. There has been a lot of discussion on this board about how and why recognition of the Gophers has been slow. I don't necessarily think that has been unfair, it takes a long time to reverse perception, and as Northwestern as shown us, a little bit of success doesn't mean a team has turned a corner. However, the tone of the narrative of the Gopher wins has changed considerable. After the Nebraska win, people seemed to be wanting to know what could be wrong with Nebraska that they would lose to us. Last night on Final Countdown, it looked like they were starting to believe that we were a pretty good team and talking about what the Gophers were doing right to win these games (rather than what our opponents were doing wrong).

I think that's spot on. I also think way too much is made of the 4-game winning streak issue. It has as much to do with when you play certain teams as it does with how you're playing. That said, I'll take the roll we're on right now and the slow building of respect for the program. There's a great opportunity to "flip the switch" on the remaining skeptics in 13 days.

The BTN is playing to the Eastern Conference. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin coverage over the Western Conference. First it was who can possibly challenge Ohio State. Northwestern, Iowa, of course Michigan, Nebraska. To the BTN there was no reason, no story line, no inclination that the Gophers could be a factor. But the biggest slight not only on the BTN, but also by the media in general is ignoring, downplaying, and marginalizing Michigan State. They were basically a great defense and an offense who couldn't get out there own way. But it was two phantom pass interference calls and they are undefeated, and now the Big 10 Network has said that Ohio State needs Michigan State to win out, to boost their strength of schedule. This isn't the BTN its The OSU Network and we are living it.

The replay of yesterday's game is on right now on BTN! If anyone wants to watch again! I am right now! :)

The guys at BTN don't wipe their Azzes until they check with Delaney first. I agree that it's great that we're getting more positive coverage, as well as respect. At some point being treated as a "novelty" for winning is insulting.

But the BTN's agenda is all about getting tOSU to the championship game. Which is all Delaney cares about. We got a lot more coverage on Final Drive & Countdown because the buck its had a bye. Last week tOSU rolled PU 56-0 and were still the lead story. And as Husker alluded to, the amount of love UW is getting from the BTN (not to mention the ESPN BT blog) is nauseating. What have the bangs done, exactly, besides only losing to Ohio State by a TD?

The only solution for us is to keep winning
