Game of the week: Iowa at Minnesota. If the Gophers want to contend in what looks like an open Big Ten West, they probably will need to beat visiting Iowa in the battle for Floyd of Rosedale. The Hawkeyes have won three of the last four meetings, but the Gophers won the last time Iowa visited them in 2014. The week before this tilt, Minnesota plays at Penn State, so the Gophers may be a bit worn down.

Ranking the games of Week 6
1. Iowa at Minnesota
2. BYU at Michigan State
3. Maryland at Penn State
4. Purdue at Illinois
5. Michigan at Rutgers
6. Indiana at Ohio State

Go Gophers!!

bring floyd home.

Captain Kirk had brought better Iowa clubs than this one to the New Brickhouse and gotten punked.

Iowa will be working on their bowl prep schedule by week 6 & not worried about this game.

Hopefully that includes that new not practicing thing.... that would be nice.

They can make it seem lopsided in Iowa's favor by arbitrarily restricting it to the last 4 years. If we look at the last 6 years, it's 3-3. If we look at the five games from 2010-2014, Minnesota led 3-2. In reality, Minnesota still leads the all-time series quite comfortably, and it's generally been a competitive rivalry even though Iowa has been a better program. I wouldn't call any particular matchup an upset, particularly when it's June and we have no idea how good either team will be this season.

Agreed on the time thing. I think we're way likely to be underdogs odds wise but it is hard to know.

I think had the Iowa Wisc game gone the other way (nobody seemed to want to win that game, it was fugly) Iowa's season could have gone the other way entirely, but it didn't.

Great post, Dpo.

Being an analyst is easy: Iowa was in the B1G championship and Rose Bowl, MN wasn't. Therefore MN is underdog.

MN should be the underdog at this point. It's that simple

Will be dawgs, but it's still a winnable game, big rival at home, gave them a game down there last year, can be done

Using my Kreskin like mental skills, I see a bronze pig and a giant ax coming back to Dinkytown by the end of November. Bank on it.

I may be in the minority here, but I hate IA more than WI. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Gophers beat WI - but I absolutely want the Gophs to crush IA. I want to see the Gophs beat IA 100-0, and humiliate them so badly that the entire state of IA falls into a deep depression and commits mass suicide by drowning themselves in hog manure lagoons.

Hum - Sounds like you want to be the Ruppert of Wisconsin when it comes to Iowa. I am afraid you have a long ways to go if you want to catch him. You are also not obsessed enough. I do appreciate your effort though.

If we go by teams I hate Wisconsin more than Iowa, if we go by fan bases I think Iowa football has the worst fans in the country and it's not even close, their bowl opponents seem to always have that impression.

Must be summer, the annual off-season stone cold lock for the Axe is being proclaimed.

He did say Ax not Axe, we might win some sort of giant trophy of body spray, they've gotta be sponsoring one of 900 bowls played now right?

We're not going to get into a grammatical pissing match about ax vs. axe again are we? I'm pretty sure it was concluded that both spellings are acceptable.

PS: The body spray is actually spelled "Axe" so bad example.

It had to be at least two years ago. Someone referred to it as an ax and another person got worked up and said it's an axe. Turns out both words are acceptable though Paul Bunyan's Axe is the formal term. IDk to each his own.

Agree 100% on the fan base. Wisc are for the most part happy drunks. Iowa fans are obnoxious, mean spirited, sad drunks. Found Husker fans to be very hospitable, even the drunk ones.
