4. Minnesota ranks last in total offense in the Big Ten, but is one of eight unbeaten teams in the conference.

The Gophers are averaging 344.5 yards per game through two weeks, which ranks 14th among Big Ten teams. However, Jerry Kill’s team is 2-0 heading into a Week 3 showdown with TCU. And it’s not like the Gophers haven’t put up points, averaging 38.5 points per contest, which ranks in the top 40 in the country. However, Minnesota ranks last in the conference in both passing yards (223) and total yardage (689) after two weeks. Confusing, right?

Go Gophers!!

"All that matters are wins".

Stats are for losers.

It's because our defense has been scoring a lot of points.

"Surprising"

It's because our defense has been scoring a lot of points.
A big part is the above along with field position and turnovers.
If it is "surprising", what have you been watching? It is why there are a lot opinions on how to improve it.
Burying your head in the sand and saying there isn't an issue with the offense is a bit short sighted.

Nice how they conveniently left out our PPG ranking in the B1G, which I think is currently 2nd.

Total offense is meaningless when your offense only has to move the ball less than 50 yards to get to the endzone for a majority of their drives.

They have been winning convincingly- therefore I have zero issues with the offense. I will be concerned if they fail to move the ball/score and lose. Until then, I like having my head buried in the sand- its much more relaxing then worrying about things I have no control over.

Final scores, who really cares how we get them.

The problem being it is foolhardy to rely on your defense to score every week. There's a whole half of the team that needs to shoulder more of the load.

Good thing we also have a special teams unit to score!

Turn overs and short fields also account for lack of yards. it is confusing but with the way our defense has played int he first half of the two games we have not had to put up huge numbers on the O side.

we will need the first half Defense to play the whole game this saturday and many more this season

Breaking it down. Our average TD drive is 6.2 plays and 55.2 yds. Great part is that we have drives from 5 to 90 yds so far this year. 3 of the 9 TD drives were after a turnover. Of 11 TD's scored, 45% of our TD's have been set up or scored by defense and special teams.

Eastern Illinois

Drives:
3 plays 5 yds. * Off turnover
4 plays 44 yds.
8 plays 47 yds. * Off turnover
8 plays 81 yds.
9 plays 90 yds.

MTS
1 play 27 yds. * Off turnover
5 plays 56 yds.
10 plays 69 yds.
8 plays 78yds.

Total offense as a stat is a declining indicator. We are not a high volume offensive play team. It isn't our goal to run 100 plays a game. The teams that have more plays in theory should have more yards. It would be more interesting to compare us to the type of offense we like to run and see how our total offensive indicators look.

This guy gets it.

Don't kid yourself. The fact we have looked, and been, discombobulated on offense, and can not put long drives together is a real issue. I hope it does not bite us this week, but I am afraid it will.
We have obviously not shown a lot, but the fact Limegrover is still trying to do end-arounds to Fruechte after two or three clear drops of easy hand-offs last season just proves he can out think himself consistently, and does not get putting specific players in position to utilize their strengths. Fruechte has unreliable hands. Great kid, good athlete, hard worker and good blocker, but he can't handle even a hand-off reliably. Accept it and move on.
I am not a fan of Limegrover being both O-Line coach and O-Coordinator. He's a smart guy and a good coach, but he is involved with too much.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that is fairly common. The O-Coordinator usually coaches the QB's or O-line.
