I know this has been discussed on here a bit, but I just watched a video of him playing. He's got speed to burn and handles well. Kid has a gorgeous jumper and the ability to create. And.... unlike many Gophs in recent history he knows how and when to stop and pop from 10 or 12 rather than go all the way in and get snuffed out. (he did it a number of times in the video I saw)
Can't link it because it's GI.

Now get this: He's 88 for 175 from 3 point land!! That's over 50% for the mathematically challenged and that's on a lot of shots.

He may be a football player but I have to think he could help this offensively limited squad.

What were westbrook's stats coming out? I know his ppg were off the charts.

Yeah, I watched that vid of him and was quite impressed. Either he's picking the wrong sport, or he's a monster on the grid. Or maybe he just sees a future in football he doesn't see in BB. Either way he is quite impressive on the court.

St Louis high school basketball is is just as good as what is played here...It will be very interesting to see what happens with this kid. It's very hard to predict, but he does look like an offensive player, can (or will) he play D ??

Maybe this is just his sneaky way of playing top tier D1 BB on scholarship. I wonder where he would have ended up if he had declared himself a BB player in college instead of football.

Is he not rated at his position (top 100 or better) in BB?

Is he? But even if he is where would that put him in a college programs? I have a feeling it's well below the level of Minnesota. But I don't follow BB recruiting so IDK.

St Louis basketball is mos def better than what is played in MN. Not as big an area but the STL and E.STL produces a ton of talent and he may be the best this year

Schnoodler--I don't know if he is rated (not that it matters all that much) as a top 100 player at his position or not....but from the video(s) it looks like he should be. He looks like he's a legit 6'3 player as well.

OK--thanks Son of a Badger -- In the videos he looked taller that 6'...Either way, he has offensive skills, at least at the high school level in the St Louis area. I hope he can handle both sports at the U.

I'm sure he can. He looks great. that's pretty damn good getting the 40th ranked PG as a walk on. And that's on top of an already great class.

I'm not 100% but I don't think he really hit the AAU circuits which could affect his ranking. I do know that in STL he's a big favorite for Mr Basketball playing for a fairly small school

Watching that video, his play reminds me a lot of Tyrese Rice at Boston College. It seems like he can pull up and get his shot up at anytime. Quick release, pretty good form. He seems like one of those guys that if he gets hot, look out!

I wonder why Allen has not been involved in the recruiting classes. He is neither in the Rivals one nor the ESPN one. I just wonder if our class should be ranked higher than they are right now.

Sometimes I think high schoolers are mystified by a left handed player...

not to mention...

not to mention all the hair flying around! Gotta be a visual distraction to those defenders.

Love to see those dreads on our team!

But after watching his video, I would be all for this guy walking on, IF he can knock those shots down in the big ten.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying STL is most definitely better than the Twin Cities. I would hazard a guess that the Twin Cities produces more DI basketball prospects (most certainly this year) in most years than STL does on a yearly basis.

St. Louis area only has one recruit that is attending a BCS school this year (2009). Minneapolis has five, plus another one who is going to Gonzaga who had multi-BCS offers.

St. Louis area had only two BCS commits last year, while Minneapolis had four (2008).

Of course, STL has produced some elite talent over the years - LaPhonso Ellis, Loren Woods, Larry Hughes, David Lee and Jahidi White, amongst others. But, Minneapolis has had Humphries, Boone, El-Amin, Royce White, etc, too.
