Super 50
The MOsports.com staff with the help of top basketball talent evaluators from around the Show Me State have put together a list of the Top 50 players in Missouri. This was a difficult process to find the top players in the state, regardless of class.
Players were evaluated on current level of skill, and potential at the next level.
3. Bryant Allen, Maplewood High School
Winner, there are many adjectives one could use to describe Maplewood senior point guard Bryant Allen, however Winner may be the best, because all he has done in all areas of athletics at Maplewood is win. A star in track, as well as on the football field, this spring Allen helped lead the Blue Devils to back-to-back Class 3 basketball championships.
While some college scouts may have questioned his size, no one has ever questioned his heart. Allen stands 6-foot tall and weighs 160-pounds, checking in at No. 3 in the MOsports.com Super 50.
Maplewood head coach Corey Frazier has had the opportunity to watch Allen grow over the past four seasons. "He is a scoring point guard. He is quick, fast and in a hurry with or without the ball", commented Frazier.
"He plays on both ends of the court. He can hurt you off the dribble in transition, in the midrange and coming off screens. The biggest thing people don't see is that he's a very good passer and trust his team in any situation. Defensively he will pick your pocket on ball or in the passing lanes. He truly plays the game 94 feet."
Allen's numbers speak for themselves, this season he averaged 23.7 points, 4.2 assists per game, and he knocked down 49% of his three point attempts totaling 99 on the season. In his career he scored 2,632 points, grabbed more than 500 steals, and added nearly 500 assists, however his competitiveness and leadership are traits that stand out.
"When the big game comes or any big time opposing talent steps into the gym his game goes up on a whole different level", added Frazier. "He is sweet shooting lefty with great range and will blow right by you if you get to close. He is the best player in the 09 class state wide. Lastly he is a proven Champion as he led his team to Class 3 state title in 2008 and 2009."
A major division one recruit in football, Allen received interest from many schools in basketball as well earning offers from Missouri, Illinois State, Iowa, and Minnesota to play both sports. Allen quickly accepted the opportunity to play for the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference in Minnesota.
"Playing for a coach like Tubby Smith is always an honor because of his history and the way he coaches his up-tempo style", commented Allen. "From watching the games on TV and from what the coaches said to me from the basketball point of view, it is going to be pretty fun playing in the Barn also and I can't wait for that."
Allen has earned nearly ever honor imaginable at Maplewood and is a finalist for Mr. Missouri Basketball which will be announced on May 3.
