Bronson Koenig 2013

I have seen Bronson three times this season, and it's pretty to see why college coaches like him. He is a good athlete and has good size for a college PG. He is also a talented player who has been well coached.

JohnnyGopher posted earlier in the week that Tubby is expected to make a trip to Lacrosse soon to watch Bronson, which was likely to result in a scholarship offer. Unfortunately for Minnesota, I don't think an offer will help their chances much. From everything I can gather about this recruitment, there are two schools far out front of anyone else. UNC saw Bronson for the first time at an event in the Dells this past July, and they have continued to show a good deal of interest in him. Roy Williams was in Lacrosse to watch an Aquinas game this past Thursday. If UNC decides to offer a scholarship, I think there's a high likelihood that Bronson goes to UNC. If they don't, which I think is possible given Marcus Paige's commitment in the 2012 class and their potential need for a PG in the 2011 class with Larry Drew's departure, I believe he ends up at UW. Bo has spent a lot of time personally recruiting both Koenig and JP Tokoto, they are very clearly the priorities for the UW program. Hopefully they are able to fight off UNC in both cases.

Hard To Compete With UNC

The Tar Heels are one of the Top 3 programs (all-time).

If UNC offers, Bronson is going. I actually think Wisconsin would be a very good fit for Bronson...unfortunately, the Gophers are probably way down on his list.

Ole, any gut feeling on where Tokoto ends up?

Unfortunately for UW, it appears that UNC is the favorite for Tokoto as well. JP got his offer from Roy last June, but so did a few other highly regarded wing prospects. Bo is putting a lot of effort into JP (he at Menomonee Falls' game on Friday), and I think UW is very much in the mix, but it might depend on who accepts UNC's offer first. If one or two of the other offers out there are accepted, I think JP is a Badger. However, it's probably accruate to say UNC is the favorite.

UNC has offered

Bronson Koenig was offered a scholarship from North Carolina. Just got off the phone with Ritchie Davis.

RT @WisconsinPGC: Bronson Koenig, a 6'2 sophomore PG from La Crosse Aquinas (WI) picked up an offer from North Carolina tonight.

Charley Walters had a blurb this morning that the Gophers have become " enamored " with this one.

Sorry, if it's been brought up before.

It would be nice to steal one from Wisconsin though.

It's too bad being "enamored" with a player doesn't mean Tubby offers the kid early. Perhaps Tubby will offer Bronson in 2012 well after Bronson decides on his school. For once I wish Tubby and MN would be one of the first schools to offer instead of letting other schools get a year plus head start. Are WI, UNC, and even Green Bay evaluators that much better that they can spot and offer athletes so much earlier then MN? Obviously the bb staff at UM have never heard the saying about how "the early bird gets the worm."

If you are relying on Rivals list of offers, shame on you. Tubby doesn't call Rivals to tell them who gets offers.

Point (you missed) was that schools like UK, UNC, and KU always have the recruiting edge over schools like Minnesota (and 100's of others).

I think his point (which you missed) is that your post was news to exactly nobody.

I didn't miss it at all. Everyone should realize that 300+ teams are never (rarely) going to sign a player sought by the Top Shelf teams.

FOT you are very good at pointing out things that are common knowledge and trying to sound smart by doing it.

The paper down here in La Crosse had an article about Koenig's offer by UNC today.

North Carolina joins Wisconsin, Marquette, UW-Green Bay, Toledo, Washington State and Virginia on Koenig's offer list.

I hear Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also has offered.

[I am guessing that mentioning Toledo has to be some sort of favor to their new coach Tod Kowalczyk, who used to coach at Green Bay]

On the other hand, the early worm gets eaten up by the bird. It all depends on how one looks at things.
