Brian Bennett on Phillip Nelson's running ability: "Has surprised me a bit."

per Bennett's Chat Wrap:

Jay (MN)
Brian, please tell me you got to enjoy AggieVision Saturday night. What concerns you the most in regards to Minnesota's passing game? I just don't think they have the WR's on the outside to threaten people downfield.

Oh my goodness. I couldn't stop talking and tweeting about the wonders of AggieVision. Loved the intro music and the Casa de Autos commercials (is that Spanish for "garage?). Anyway, I think you're onto it there. The team just didn't have great playmaking ability at wideout last year, and while it has improved some, there still aren't a lot of guys who scare you there. That's why Minnesota has to get the running game going and be physical. That's what worked in the bowl game but it has yet to look the same this year. I do like Nelson's running, though. Has surprised me a bit.

Go Gophers!!

Why did we go away from the playbook used in the Bowl Game?

I'm asking because I honestly don't know... maybe it was addressed in the Off-Season & I just wasn't paying attention...

Just like the Vikings the Gophers just show their basic offense during preseason.

I don't understand this? Why not run every trick play in the book? It's not like opposing coaches would have seen anything watching reruns on aggievision.

Good point. Every play on auggievision looks like a trick play.

Memo to Brian, maybe it was Aggie Vision but I am sure Mr. Williams put up a 148. And more than a few bruises.

Yeah, that makes me question whether he watched the game much. Our run game struggled against UNLV but it looked exactly like it did in the bowl game against NMSU. Kind of a strange comment after running for 350.

Agreed.

Gophers rushing stats from Sat: 43 attempts for 342 yards 8.0 average
BADGers rushing stats from Sat: 51 attempts for 387 yards 7.6 average

We'll be just fine in the running department...
