A reporter asked Brew if Davis would be on the field or in the press box.

Brewster looked and sarcastically answered, "What football team has their OL coach in the press box"
.

Tim, the Gophers when they could run for 200 + a game, that's who.

Gordie Shaw was in the box in the Mason era.

Davis is O line coach, Dunbar still runs the show (hopefully) why the heck would Davis be in the press box? will Mark Hill be in the press box?

You don't get it, he tried to make the reporter look like an idiot by saying no offensive line coach is ever in the box.

Gordie Shaw was when he was with the Gophers and we ran pretty well then.

reporters are idiots, they don't need help from coaches

This is not really a big deal and I'm pretty sure having the o-line coach in the press box had nothing to do with the success of the running game.

I just thought it was kind of funny, I wish I would have been the reporter. Because I would have fired back that it worked pretty well for the last regime. But then again that may have been a little too Reusse like for most in this board.

Gordie Shaw

Who honestly gives a rat's ass about Gordie Shaw... There are far too many posters on this board that live in the past... Once Coach Davis implements his running game, you'll know why Shaw is coaching in South Dakota.... For reassurance take a gander at Coach Davis's resume:

Davis started his coaching career at the University of Wisconsin, where he was a volunteer assistant in 1983, followed by a two year stint as a graduate assistant. In 1986, he returned to his roll as a volunteer assistant. He joined the University of Arizona as a graduate assistant in 1987, then worked as the offensive coordinator for Walla Walla Community College for the 1988 season.
In 1989, Davis moved to Idaho State, where he worked as an offensive line coach, then in the same position from 1990 to 1997 at the University of Utah. In 1997, Davis rejoined the Wisconsin Badgers football team as the tight end and offensive tackles coach.[2] He would remain in Madison until 2001.[2]
In 2002, Davis was the Offensive Line coach for the University of Southern California[2], where he coached All-American Jacob Rogers, as well as NFL players Winston Justice and Fred Matua. In 2005 he left the Trojans to join the Miami Dolphins, where he coached the offensive line, until 2007.[2] In 2008, he joined the University of Alabama as the director of player personnel.[2]

Davis

And in 2009 he will be named Offensive Coordinator for the U of M, IMHO. I believe it was promised in order to get him here and it provides a very polite way of easing Mr. Dunbar out without humiliation. This is an area that I am impressed with Brewster, he seems not to let personal feelings get in the way of making tough decisions. He told his son he would never start at QB, he told the "D" coordinator to take the job in NC and, purely my opinion, he will ease Mr. Dunbar out the door (all, of course, in my opinion) and with the respect he deserves.

Go Gophers, Beat Kansas!

FYI, Gordy coached the guards and centers, not the entire O-Line. Although I did think of Gordy when Brew said that, of course its ridiculous to even talk about as Brew was just having some fun with Kent as he has been apt to do the entire time he's been covering the team.

I grew up in SD and rumor has it they don’t like him. Apparently Shaw is as big a jerk as he ever was.

Want to take odds on who the idiot

was who asked the question? My leading candidate is Mike Max.

Mitch Browning coached the tackles. Thanks for playing.

Shaw only coach the guards and centers for PART OF THE TIME. Jared Smith coached them also, and Shaw got moved to the DL for a couple years. Why does everyone here think Shaw is the cat's ass? The love for him confuses me.

Maybe Brew thinks the practice of an OL coach in the press box is generally stupid and from that perspective considered the question stupid!

Just a thought!

It was a legitimate question and Brewster does not need to belittle the reporter by it. He needs to be patient because he wil get stupid questions, especially from callers on the radio.

Coaching can be a very humbling profession and he should try to keep on good terms with the reporters because they tend to remember it when you belittle them after a loss, and the questions can get a lot more scathing than that!!

Maybe he is a little annoyed by questions that may subtly allude to Shaw? The way Shaw always seems to get brought up, I think I would be annoyed as well! Can some people just go on with life! Shaw more then burnt a few bridges big time and now people ask questions which basically bring back some sort of supposed glory days reminder?

I don't think where the OL coach watches the game is a very big deal. Some guys like to be on the field, others might like to be up in the box. It's a personal preference. Whatever helps them to be a better coach is all that matters. I think some people are reading too much into Brew's comment. I don't get any sense that it had anything to do with Shaw. I think he was simply pointing out that most OL coaches watch the game on the field, not in the booth.

It is only the third quarter but it sure looks like it is over!

Brewster has no problem making the tough coaching decisions, that's why he publicly defended Withers, right? We still had issues on D this year, but it wasn't nearly as obvious. Some better players helped, but some better coaching made the difference. Brewster has not shown he knows what he's doing outside of PR and recruiting.
