I can see his point but I don't think the NCAA would allow this to happen. I can't remember any strong pitch from the CFB coaches in RE: to this issue. Still, a scrimmage against ISU, Kansas, UNI, etc. would be interesting. How about Notre Dame?

Oh well, something to kick around until we start getting serious.

I know volleyball allows this, the Gophers played spring volleyball against I think 4 colleges. Marquette, NDSU, Texas and Nebraska, I think. I could see the benefit of practicing against another school, because you don't know them well, they will challenge you differently from your own teammates.

But who would be scrimmage? We probably don't want to scrimmage against a Big Ten opponent, which doesn't leave too many good options without traveling a long way. Perhaps against a MIAC or NSIC team? They would get the benefit of pushing themself against a stronger team, we'd get to practice against someone we aren't used to, and it might be good promotion for the team - it would get pretty heavily covered in that school's local area.

Mason said the same thing. He mentioned an annual scrimmage against someone like Iowa State would be benefical in fall practices. I don't think it's a bad idea but will the NCAA allow this to happen is the question? I doubt it but it would be a good idea.

If not a full-out public scrimmage, why not joint practices like the Vikes and Chiefs did together all those years?

I know that some MIAC/UMAC teams scrimmage and St. Olaf scrimmages Rochester Community College. If the Gophers scrimmage anyone it would likely be one of the D2 teams or one of the Dakota's. Lowest cost travel possible.

I think it's probably safe to say the cost of travel from Fargo is pretty close to the cost of travel from Ames to Minneapolis.

If we do play one of the local D-II teams, I think it should be on the road. Practicing in unfamiliar surroundings could have benefits. Plus, it's great publicity. If it was an open scrimage, those stadiums would get packed.

I really like this idea too... My thoughts are that staying within the confines of Minnesota would be good for the whole state

Mankato, Duluth, St Cloud, St Johns would be awesome travel destinations for a scrimmage.... The locals would love it and both teams would benefit....
