Off. MVP -- Decker
Def. MVP -- Campbell
Special teams MVP -- Ellestad
Unsung MVP -- Hoese
Hard hat hit of the week -- Triplett for a hit he put on the Orange TE
Scout team off. MVP -- Ed Olson
Scout team def. MVP -- Aaron Hill
Brewster notes:
-Stommes, Bennett, and Sherels are day-to-day and he EXPECTS all to play on Sat.
-"You can see that we are a faster, more physical defense."
-Offense was a bit too hit or miss...striving for more consistency
-Gave a ton of credit to Stoudermire for the blocking he did on the Bennett untouched TD run
-Said all of there focus is on AF, can't get caught up in the hoopla of TCF
-Without going into great detail, key to containing Air Force's triple-option attack
1) Taking away the Dive
2) Extreme discipline
***Noted their AF's QB and FB provide their most explosive runs, not their tailbacks
-When asked which unit (D-line, LBs, DBs) is the most important in stopping AF, he, without hesitation said all "11"...the LBs he did mention though...but they will mix in some play-action and can't be asleep when that happens
-Another key to containing AF: Keeping Weber and company on the field longer...got to have some longer drives...if the defense is on the field too long, it'll catch up to them
-Said AF is maybe the best conditioned team in the country....training at 7000 feet helps and being a military academy helps...they will not be tired in the 4th qtr
-Souhan asked a few ?s about Weber and the QBs running in this offense...Brewster said they have no designed runs, although they have some tweaks in there for Gray
-As for Gray, sees him getting more playing time (did not specifically say vs. AF though)
Weber:
--Hayo will be on the field a lot more (didn't say vs. AF specifically)...Hayo will be given a chance to make plays
--He was wearing a sleeve over his right elbow, said he woke up Sun. morning and had a little swelling, so the sleeve helps with that...Added, it 100% is nothing to be concerned about
--When asked if this offense (compared to the Spread) is better for him, he said "maybe" and that it's tough to evaluate through one game, but does know that this offense "allows US to be successful."
Ellestad:
--Said he's still in a dream after Sat.
***Jake from GH was also there and caught up with Lawrence and Campbell...presumably, he'll have some stuff on those conversations posted in the near future.
