Just heard on the radio that Tim Brewster could be gone as soon and Sunday morning. Also heard the replacement will be former Kansas coach Mark Magino. I'm surprised that this isn't on here yet...

On a serious note Mangino is a terrible human being and I could maybe see him being an interim coach but I doubt he's a serious candidate as the replacement.

Time to up to bourbon intake if this is true. Can't we get a normal coach in here?

Sorry, liver.

Hold on I made a gif for this eventuality too:

Praise Allah.

Look, dude hates his life. That'll manifest itself in ways that make him appear to be a reprehensible human being; honestly, though, I think he's just a hurting unit.

I'm a believer that some measure of redemption is possible. And by that I mean temporal redemption. Like, do terrible stuff, clean yourself up, live an appropriate life for a few years and earn your way back to a moderate level of respect. Mangino was an insufferable prick; but due to the depression that would get someone into the physical state he's in, if he's taken care of himself, there's a path to redemption.

This is not to suggest I want him as our FT coach next year, though.

I mean he's not as bad as Dan McCarney who sounds like a sociopath, but he just sounds like an overbearing abusive personality and a racist. You're right, there probably is a path to redemption for a guy like that I'd just prefer it be on someone else's dime.

Something tells me this radio report might be inaccurate. If there's going to be an interim head coach it will be someone from the staff and that's only if Brewster decides he doesn't want to finish the season. I'm pretty sure Brewster will in order to pad his record.

I'm not even sure the radio report happened. Or if it did that's probably some dumb talk radio host's speculation. Brew's on the way out? Hey remember they hired Mangino a few weeks ago???

I don't buy it.

You could not be more wrong. McCarney turned his life around. Came to terms with his former wife, gave up alcohol and did everything you could ask of a person. Mangino had no regrets for being physically and mentally abusive to his players. He is a sick person. If he is interm coach, I will cancel my block of season tickets and will no longer be a contributor to the Gophers.

If Mangino is the interim, that's fine, but what's the point? Horton can handle that. If Mangino is the permanent hire, ugh. Even if he can coach, and has resolved his issues (which I haven't heard) he's still not what we need as the face of this program.

Not to be an shallow but I cant stand looking at that obese blob, I would have a huge problem with him as the new coach.

Points for Dan McCarney: Used to invite over Studwell, Sr. for beers in his backyard after Iowa victories.

I really don't understand bringing in an interm coach at this point either...particularly one with baggage.

No point in getting too worked up about this rumor that, so far, was heard by only one person on this board and has not been repeated on any other news outlet. Not saying it isn't true, just saying that we might want to take a couple deep breaths before getting bent out of shape.

I'm in Phoenix, stuck at a hotel, watching Game Day from Camp Randall and realizing that this is something that I will never see in my lifetime at Minnesota. I hope Joel M. is happy with the direction he's taken this program.....no team, no coach, no fans, no hope! Thanks for nothing, Joel, we are now only on everybody's radar as next year's homecoming opponent. Yippee!

If Mangino is the new coach, it serves two purposes. One, he's the new coach. Two, he can serve as the dome to the stadium.

go4rob: I feel your pain. Ever since 2007 it has been evident that Maturi picked a course of action that was going to run this football program into the depths of the basement in the Big Ten Conference. It has been a very sad experience. There is no reason to go on Big Ten road trips. I fear that people just don't realize how difficult it has been and always will be to "win big" in Big Ten play. Nebraska is a great addition to the Big Ten, but it will make it even that much more difficult to escape the basement in the future.

All those people who don't quite "get" how important Big Ten wins were when Mason managed to play .400 Big Ten ball also don't realize what Minnesota's .484 all-time conference record means in terms of Big Ten wins and losses.

This current situation is incredibly depressing for long-time Gopher fans.

I hope for better days. And I know you do too.

Maturi has totally squandered the TCF BANK STADIUM potential and impact. But, Maturi can NOT survive much longer. We can only hope for a positive administrative presence in the future...and just a little bit of good fortune.

However, it is up to the administration at the U of M to MAKE TCF work. Administrations must "make their own good fortune..." The administration now has TCF BANK STADIUM as an anchor...a ball and chain they can NOT escape. The fullest utilization of this stadium will make or break future administrations. It will either become a valued treasure at the U of M or will become an incredibly expensive boondoggle and wasted final "last ditch effort" and prexy b's "last and lost errection..."

How could they have brought in a totally inexperienced head football coach to make a mockery out of this program as it tried to transition from: "...out of the wilderness and back to the campus?" What were they thinking? What were they doing?

According to the the ESPN College Gameday ticker...

"Sources say if Minnesota loses today, Tim Brewster will not be the coach next season"

I think all of us would agree with this statement though. So I am not sure if they mean immediately that he would be fired or this is the "deciding" game. I would think he needs to do much more than just win today to keep his job if there is anything that he can do at this point.

The report I saw last night on Fox 9 from the blonde haired sports anchor was that her sources were telling her if the Gophs don't win today that Brewster would be told he is not coming back and it would be his choice to finish out the season or just walk. Don't know how much merit there is to her sources but that is what she was reporting.

That sounds so "...macturian..." and wishy-washy. IF he is not coming back, get him out of there NOW and appoint an assistant as "acting coach." IF he is not coming back and decides to stay until the end of the season it would be potentially very disasterous. It will be VERY ugly at the remaining home games. Just the sight of Brewster standing on the sidelines will make the fans that actually show up for the PSU, OSU and Iowa games get really creative in their chants if the games get out of hand on the scoreboard. Why subject our players to that? Why subject we fans who don't like to see the home crowd boo the home team. Why subject the dignity of the program to that? Why the heck subject Brewster to that? If he isn't coming back, get him OUT immediately. Maturi and Prexy B are idiotic if they let Brewster do what ever crosses his mind. For once in your lives...take charge administration.

Mangino finished higher than 4th (out of 6) in the Big 12 North just twice in 8 years. He's had problems everywhere he's been. I don't believe the report to be true, but if it is, I'd rather keep Brewster around.

Mangino is a bad idea. We don't need our players to see anyone else who might encourage them to think that being fat and slow can make you successful.

not that fat F___!! please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is just anothe rloserlike brewster we need a younger x gopher if possible, with some good experience not a blob that wipes his ass with a towel!!!!!

The "dignity" that you speak of ... falls back on you, the fan. Like you said, " ... the fans that actually show up for the PSU, OSU and Iowa games get really creative in their chants ..." You realize that the fans have as much part of ruining the program and dignity as the coach does? Don't be classless and boo Brewster or the team. The guy traveled all over the country talking up the school, city, university, etc. and along with that worked countless hours to get something going. What did you do? Drink beer, sit on your ass and bitch about Brewster and his job? Now you're saying that if Brewster is on the sidelines again it is going to lose the dignity of the program? You're wrong. YOU are the one that can lose the dignity of the program if you take part in any chants downgrading our coach, players, and program. The coach did his job in bringing potential recruits to sit on the sideline and watch the team; do you think the fan's degrading chants will want to make that recruit play for the Gophers? Yea, I didn't think so either ...
