I just wasted ten minutes of my life on the Brewster to Kansas rumors. In memory of Nov6 1999 I offer the following:
1. Brewster did not initiate this. It blows my mind that people think Brewster's people initiated this. They did not.
2. Brew's people would look for a position coach position or recruiting position not head coach of a clearly better postion.
3. KU would not hire Brew for head coach. He has way too many suspect areas.
4. Twin Cities media do not care about Brew. Why do they talk about this?
5. Because they want Brew gone.
6. Maturi is an idiot.
7. Fire or extend Brew in the next week.
8. The crap surrounding our program is a disgrace.
9. Who can blame Seantrel for not wanting to play here.
10. Go Gophers

If you think a head coach would actively look for a position coach job somewhere else you are mistaken, IMHO.

If said head coach knew he was on the verge of getting S-canned he would. Football coaching is the ultimate old boys network. Look at how many guys who totally screwed the pooch as a HC wind up landing on their feet the next season somewhere else? Cam Cameron and Marty Morningweg immediately pop into my head. And those who can't coach, announce. A certain clown on ESPN's pregame show comes to mind. Not to mention someone on the BTN with a 1,000W smile.

How many have done that before actually getting fired? I can't think of one, but that does not mean it has not happened. I do not believe anyone with a head coaching ego would take a step backwards as a contigency plan. I know I sure wouldn't do that with my career.

2. So much wrong with this. Why would a head coach look for a position coach job when he'd have to pay a buyout of his head coaching contract? Kansas is not a better a job than Minnesota

4. Twin Cities media loves Brewster, they've made him an easy target. Some of that is his own doing, and some he has a legitimate gripe about.

5. I think the media wants an easy story and they like controversy whether real or created. I don't think many of them honestly care if Brewster stays or goes.

9. Last I heard Minnesota was the 2nd most likely destination for Henderson behind USC. I'd be worried about USC with or without the latest developments.

After reading Maturi's latest quote on Brewster going to Kansas, you get the feeling Joe is hoping that Brewster gets the job in Kansas. Joe never seems to have the heart to fire someone, so maybe he's hoping Kansas takes Brewster off his hands.

Who is Joe? Are you talking about the crusty old man on AM1500 that lost 3/4 of his audience when Arbitron switched counting methods? Or are you talking about the director of basketball operations? If you think Espozito can get rid of Brewster, you are sorely mistaken.

Winnipegopher is spot on here. Kansas is a step-back job compared to the U.

Joe had the heart to fire Dan Monson and Glen Mason.

Would Kansas go from a fat slob coach who can coach, to a trim idiot who can't?

Except for Monson, Maturi (read Bruininks) is more worried about money then heart when it comes to firing people. In Monson's case Dan turned down the Washington State job to stay here when the University desperately needed some stability. That decision led to the hesitation in letting Monson go later.

As or Brewster's extension, in the hundredsof posts regarding how long this is taking, the few mentioning the Bowl Game (remember that!) might have it right.

Let's say Brewster gets an extension, forget the length, now Iowa State hammers them in Arizona. Now the low roar reaches into a massive scream and the University either has to pony up a million plus to pay off another coach or has to limp through an honest to goodness lame duck season and then write the check.

A win makes the extension more palatable.

Looking at it that way do any of you who have had to make out a budget the last couple of years, doubt that Maturi is more worried about that then losing some prospects? Listening to radio jocks or newspaper writers screaming for people to "build that Vikings stadium" or "fire Brewster and hire...." makes me wonder how they have reacted watching dozens of their fellow worker "get the pipe" for budget reasons.

What Maturi needs to grow a set and tell the media to go "f" themselves or get on board. Better yet, he needs to extend Brewster, because it needs to get done, and wouldn't that just drive doogie insane - we could all read about it in "Doogies Doggie Pile."

Maturi can tell the media to "f" themselves but why should they get on board? They are the media, they are not boosters of the program. Their role is call it as they see it, whether you/I agree with their opinion or not. They are not here to wave pom-poms.

I don't know so am only taking a guess based on what I've seen and heard of Maturi. He's a game player and dumb like a lobo wolf. Don't turn your back.
