Q: Are the #1 seeds accurate?
A: The Big East getting 3 #1 seeds is a bit ridiculous, but at the end of the day, who else deserves a #1 seed besides Memphis? I guess I can't argue with the selection committee here. The difference between a #1 and #2 isn't that big of deal anyways...
Q: What team(s) got screwed in the seeding?
A: Butler: They’ve been a Top 25 team all year and they get a #9 seed? They should’ve been a #6 at worst, instead they’re in the dreaded 8/9 game. Ouch…
Q: What team(s) are seeded too high?
A: Gonzaga and Utah both jump out at me right away. Gonzaga is still riding their Monson-led Elite 8 run from 10 years ago. They have some OK non-conference wins but aside from that one year, they’ve done nothing in the tournament. I expect another early exit. Utah getting a #5 seed doesn’t add up. How is their RPI so high? They have 9 losses, one of which came against something called Southwest Baptist…
Q: What are your thoughts on the seeding of Big Ten teams, in particular the Gophers?
A: I think the committee did a decent job. All 7 teams are + or – 1 from where I had them projected. The Gophers backed into the tournament and I thought a #10 seed was a bit generous considering they’re not one of the top 40 teams in the country. I thought Purdue would’ve been bumped up to a #4 seed with their BTT Championship and I thought Wisconsin would eek out a #11 seed, but it really doesn’t matter. I agree that Penn State was left out. Had they won at Iowa, they would’ve gotten in. An 11-7 Big Ten team with 23 wins overall will never be left out. Iowa has now ruined the Nittany Lions football and basketball seasons this year…
Q: What will be the biggest 1st round upset?
A: I see #13 Mississippi State knocking off #4 Washington and another match-up to keep an eye on is #4 Xavier and #13 Portland State. I think all of the 1, 2, and 3’s are safe.
Q: Who is the year’s Davidson?
A: Well, this is not a good year for mid-majors, but Portland State or maybe Cleveland State could win a few games.
Q: Does NDSU have a chance against Kansas?
A: No. They will be lucky to keep it under 20-25 points.
Q: Who will be the first #1 seed to go down?
A: Louisville
Q: What do you see happening in the 5/12 match-ups?
A: These are some interesting match-ups. If I had to rank the #12 seeds in order of likeliness to pull off the upset, I would say Arizona, Wisconsin, Western Kentucky, and Northern Iowa. In the end, I think only Arizona will win.
Q: What are your predictions for the Big Ten teams?
A: Gophers: lose to Texas in 1st round
Michigan State: lose in Sweet 16 to Kansas
Purdue: lose to UCONN in Sweet 16
Illinois: lose to UNC in Sweet 16
Ohio State: lose to Louisville in 2nd round
Michigan: lose to Oklahoma in 2nd round
Wisconsin: lose to Florida State in 1st round
Q: Your Final 4 and Champ?
A: UCONN, Pitt, UNC, and Kansas
UNC over UCONN in the Championship game
