As frustrating as it's been, up until tonight Northwestern was the only truly disturbing loss. Illinois was the second. At least 10-8 and ~ a 7 seed is still viable. But we simply must beat Wisconsin. Otherwise it's bubble city yet again. Find a way boys.

It's already bubble city. You are taking the right attitude and I'll be there cheering them on as well. However, I'm less that optimistic with this coach. It's show me time now.

From an eye-test standpoint, they're already there. From a SS/Lunardi standpoint, they're still well clear of it. (Correct me if I'm wrong, SS). Plus Wiscy is now well in the top 50, so it would be a high-quality win and get us back on the fairly safe side. A loss...well let's not go there.

I think Lunardi will still have us in, but I also think that 1 game under .500 (which is where we are now) will be right on the bubble if we are still there come the end of the season.

Bottom line is we must beat Becky, Iowa, Nebraska, NW, Penn and Purdue. Bucky and Indiana would be icing on the cake.

The way this team handles adversity the game against Wisconsin has all the makings of a train wreck.

If we lose the Wisconsin game, we go into Iowa with a real good chance of leaving Iowa City tied with Purdue for 8th-9th place in the Big Ten, BEHIND Iowa and Illinois, and a road game looming at OSU. This could get real ugly.

You can't finish one game under .500. It's either 9-9 or 8-10.

I believe that is considered one game under .500. Being 8-9 would be considered half a game under .500.

Okay, fair enough. I always consider needing to win 2 games to get back to .500 as being 2 games under .500, but I can understand that interpretation also.

Nope. Same as baseball. "Games under .500" means how many wins it would take to get to .500. It is about the future, not the past.

A record of 5-6 is one under .500 because it would take one win to get to .500. A 20-and-30 record is ten games under .500 because it would take ten wins to get to .500.

Same with "games over .500" - if you are 45-22, you are 23 games over .500 because you'd have to lose 23 straight to arrive at .500.

It is always a forward-looking number.

I don't really pay attention to baseball, but I've heard in the past, people mentioning the Twins being half a game back from first place or whatever.

Also, on topic, I agree with the sentiment of this thread, please, please beat Wisconsin. Spending another Valentine's Day single will be bad enough, losing to Wisconsin at home would make it even worse. Likewise, winning the game will make Valentine's Day awesome, because that's all I have to look forward to that day.

"Games under/over .500" and "games back/ahead" are calculated exactly opposite.

"Games under/over .500" are based on future games.

"Games back/ahead" are based on games already played.

TEAM A is 10-8 (two games over .500, and three games ahead)
TEAM B is 7-11 (four games under .500, and three games behind)

Its calculated differently when you are comparing two teams. If one team is 10-8 and another team is 9-9, you would call the first team one game up, because it would take one game between the two teams won by the lower team to even up the standings. If the teams were 10-9 and 9-9, it would be a half game because a win by the second team over the first would put them ahead and not just tied (10-9 vs. 10-10).

I agree with others who have said it that this is a must win game for the Gophers. The Gophers will have to play better than they have been but I think they will and I think they know this is pretty much a must win game. I think as of now the Gophers will still probably be in as around a #6 seed in most bracketologys, but hope the team can get get back to playing to their potential and move up a little bit still.

No chance they beat Wisconsin. Bo Ryan has improved his team once again over the course of the season and they are confident. Three more wins will be the ceiling with this coach and rattled roster. Im sure 8-10 and and a B10 tourney win will probably get us in the dance. However a 9/10/11 seed and a first round exit, does nothing for me or the majority of the fans on here. Time to make a change Mr. Teague.

If we don't beat Wisconsin, I would like to see Norwood show some balls and fire Tubby. He has continued to underachieve but negativity aside, I will be there trying to rock the barn and cheer the gophs on! The barn will be in full force in "one last horah". Lets see what this team is made of.

No chance? Really? You people make me laugh.

Why is that a joke? They are on the up-swing and we are on the down-swing. They have every reason to have more optimism.

No - he's saying that Becky fans have more optimism about our squad than its own "fans" do.

Oops, I often only have a few seconds to read these and that is what happens.. It does say a lot about the mood here the last month though.
