Winning is cool.
But whether we win 1 or 5 is of zero import longer term, unless it portends a trend. Next year you'll have essentially the same team as this year except Dvorak and Riche back up Loberg instead of Dockery, and Rachel Banham replaces China Antoine at the point. A reasonable person might say that we won't win 1 or 5 this year, but maybe 3. With, on balance, a small roster upgrade next year, we double that to 6.
And so far with 4 scholarships available, we've signed 1 2012 while 3 obvious BCS talents--Johnson, Cichy and Janning--are hanging out there. If you can't wait until 2012-2013 to see what the future will bring, you will know the answer to that if we get shut out on any more BCS talent from the 2012s.
The word is, BTW, that Wisconsin offered Timmerman, who said she needed some more time. The next day the Badgers announced that Tinjum was coming to Madison, with their last available scholarship for 2012. So when Iowa came calling Timmerman didn't make the same mistake twice. But the point is the Badgers knew who they wanted and who the back up was and they got one. I wonder if the Gophers know what they want, much less have a back up plan.
