More bottles of liquor were confiscated from spectators at TCF Bank Stadium before the Vikings-Bears game than usually are uncovered at Gophers football games. The contents are poured in drains and the containers discarded in trash containers.

Bastards!!!! How the he77 are you supposed to stay warm. After all I aint from Iowa!!!!!!!:pig:

Not really a surprise.

There's been some research done that shows that college football fans are smarter and more educated than professional football fans. We're just better at hiding our bottles.

Not a surprise. I've been to a couple of Vikings games and the atmosphere is pretty different. LOTS of drunks. Also, alot of older gals dressed like they are 20 and going out to pick up any dude they can find. Almost feels like going to a bar downtown on a weekend night. Anyway, not an atmosphere I would bring my kids to.

Vikings' fans look like a bunch of dumbsh!ts on tv. I guess we have proof now.

The guards at our entrance didn't do a very good job of patting people down. There was a whole distillery's worth of booze in the seats around us.

It didn't always used to be that way. Something really changed about 10 or 12 years ago.

oh, you guys sound like a bunch of babies.

Section 146 Row 1 was the rockin party at the bank monday night.

us 4 brought in 12 pints, and the 2 guys next to us had a 12 pack and 2 big bottles of Hot 100.

it was a party, and it was awesome!!!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Sounds like a hockey game during my undergrad!

Yes. Reuesse believes that the 1998 team ushered in a large wave of new then 20-something fans. They spend most of their entertainment $$ on Viking season tickets that then spend the whole day getting too drunk to remember the game. As that wave is approaching 40 you'd think they'd take it down a notch, but maybe they're just being replaced with another wave.

The viking fans where smoking by my seats at the game Monday. I didn't see any of them drinking beer during the game.

Us 4? How's that NDSU education working out? :D

go to a vikings game proly half the people or more are sh*t faced. No surprise here

It was complete debauchery in our section. People completely blasted. People smoking whacky stuff. People stripping down to their boxer shorts. Just a complete bunch of morons. I am glad I do not waste money on Vikings season tickets. I feel like The Bank needs a complete scrub down and cleansing after hosting the Viking fan base.

I am not trying to go all "holier than thou," I will bring some Jack Daniels to Gopher games from time-to-time, but the level of drunkeness was unreal.

All of that being said, I had a great time taking in the game and really enjoyed STANDING the entire game.

great. One more fan who cannot enjoy a game without applying continuous pressure to the brain.

I had Viking season tickets for about 10 years in the mid 1990's and the fan base did change around 1998 when Moss arrived. The Viking fan base was old, didn't stand up, and wasn't very loud. After Moss, the crowd got much younger and the drinking took off. I wish the Gopher crowd would get younger but it won't and will keep getting smaller as long as there is no beer sold at TCF and the team keeps losing. I'm not saying I want the entire Gopher fan base to act like Viking fans but having more of the younger, loud crowd would help.

Right. Cause every other college stadium in the country that doesn't serve alcohol has a small fan base. Win and they will come. Lose and they won't. It's that simple.

My brother was at the game and said the people selling concessions in the stands were yelling "get your mixers!" while selling soda.

The last Vikes game I went to in 2008 I was lucky enough to sit behind 4 completely trashed dudes, 2 of which by the 4th quarter were completely passed out in their seats. I'm all for getting loaded and having a good time but if you are going to get that hammered why even show up?

I know, right? It's why I love Gopher gameday atmosphere more so than Vikings.. I don't have to worry about the guys behind me being so blitzed that they are puking by halftime..

+1 Part of growing up is realizing that there is a point where more alcohol <> more fun. You reach an ideal buzzed state where any more puts you in a state which is not as good. Puking shouldn't be your first clue.

What is your point exactly Maxwell?

Can I enjoy a game sitting down? Absolutely. My point was it was a unique atmosphere inside The Bank having nearly everybody standing the entire game, even though the end result was never really in doubt.

I think that same atmosphere would be outstanding for a Gopher game.

Anyone else but me remember the Met? The 70's were not a sober time period.

I do. The Vikings had their version of the Dog Pound in the centerfield bleachers where drunk and rowdy were the norm. A section that should have been for mature audiences only. I don't know if it had a nickname, but I sat there a few times as a young man and thought it was the best place to be for a Vikes game.

It's funny how people on this board think you are either a gopher or viking fan, but not both. People who are a fan of football like both teams. The gophers are not in competition with the vikings, if you think that, the gophers are in big trouble.

It's only about 25-30% of the board that hates the Vikings but they are a loud minority.
