I don't see why they wouldn't be three of the four schools that bring the PAC-12 from 12 to 16 teams. To me it makes more sense.

Boise State and San Diego State as they now stand would never qualify for entrance into the Pac-12. Can't speak to BYU. Don't want to really.

I believe BYU was turned away years ago by the PAC-10 because Stanford and Cal wanted nothing to do with the conservative religious school.
