Seniors Briean Boddy-Calhoun and Eric Murray were named to the 2015 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List today by the Maxwell Football Club.

The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. It is named after Chuck Bednarik, who is a member the College Football Hall of Fame (1969) and the NFL Hall of Fame (1967) after standout careers at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Boddy-Calhoun and Murray are two of 80 defensive players named to the pre-season list. Thirteen cornerbacks were recognized, but Boddy-Calhoun and Murray are the only corner teammates who are on the list. The only other Big Ten corner on the list is William Likely from Maryland.

Go Gophers!!

Let me get this straight: They are the only CB tandem to make the list together, and there were only a dozen CBs across the country good enough to make the list, but there are somehow five better tandems out there?

Makes total sense. Logically and mathematically.

Fans of those 5 tandems see this watch list as bunk. It can work both ways.

Fans didn't compile the watch list, or get paid to write the article.

Fans (like myself) harbor very strong biases. Professionals are supposed to put those aside (you know, ethics and what not). I'm observing a rather large inconsistency between two sets of college football professionals. I could care less what the fans of those players have to say about it, for these purposes.

My point (in example form): A dumb rube like me can form the opinion that Pat Mears is the best Shortstop of all time, and that's fine. But, a journalist that gets paid to sway public opinion and has a hall of fame vote should know better. They should be open to criticism and held to a higher standard than myself, no?

I'm not criticizing Florida St. Fans for thinking their CBs are better. I don't think that needs to be explained. But, I appreciate the explanation of that hypothetically hypothetical subject if I'm ever to broach it in the future.
