I have been a Bob Stein fan for a number of years. He has been outspoken in his disappointment in the current regime at the U but will also offer praise when appropriate. He seems fair and balanced and has a lot of personal credibility as a business executive. Agree of disagree, like J Robinson, Bob Stein is a straight shooter and a no- nonsense guy.

I had a chance to talk to him recently and would like to be the first to throw his name in the hat for the new Gopher Athletic Director position. He knows how to win and has the business savvy to make difficult decisions without waffling. He understands the realities of our Financial situation and can prioritize the program accordingly.

The program can only get better from here. With a New President and a new AD, maybe we can begin to compete against OSU and Wisconsin.

I for one want to endorse Bob Stein!

Good lord NO. Talk to anyone that worked with him at the Wolves. I'm sure he is a nice dedicated guy, but he in incapable of doing this job.

Go out and find someone with experience in the field.

Why are you recommending a complete moron for the AD job? If Stein hadn't married the bosses daughter after he was done with football nobody would have ever heard from him again.

He is a complete....

ogre......first ran the Wolves into the ground, and then tried to move them. David Stern saw to it that he was removed from the league immediately.

His oppressive style still hangs like a curse over Target Center.

Probably the worst idea I've read on this site in a few weeks, and that's really saying something.

I would quit my job, move to Madison and get Badger season tickets.

Well, I'm not endorsing Stein, but he can't be worse than Maturi. I'd rather have a monkey over Maturi.

under maturi's watch:

0 ncaa hoops tourney wins
3 straight men's hockey seasons with no ncaa bid (unless a miracle happens this year)
managed to lose allure of new football stadium in just second season due to his "i did my homework" hire of brew
women's basketball team lowest attendance in bt and second straight bottom three finish in bt
jimmy williams lawsuit which we lost
golf coach lawsuit
men's tennis team put on probation
no substantial progress on baseball stadium

but hey, we all care about merging athletic departments, balancing budget and dance team titles so all is good.

And I would like to be the first to pour gasoline on that hat, burn it to a crisp, and piss on it. Stein needs to remain on the sideline with his mouth shut.

"Bob Stein as the New Athletic Director"

Another reason why m2s continues to remain on and to move up the chart on dpodoll's and blizzard's THE LIST!

Pretty sure this ship sailed last fall with Save Gopher Football's attempts to defame the University to potential coaches around the country. Can't see hiring anybody who made such efforts to hurt our school because they didn't get their way.

we need a fresh start here!

Only if he hires Doogie as basketball coach.

Dr Don:

I made dpodoll's and blizzard's LIST!......WOW...I had no idea!....I am sure you guys would endorse an equal opportunity candidate like Pam Borton for example! She is already under contract so she would come on the cheap plus as a bonus her teams always try hard! Hence, She would meet all your basic criteria...Low cost, EO, and one who puts in great effort!

under maturi's watch:

0 ncaa hoops tourney wins

He hired Tubby Smith...a hall of fame coach. Yeah, he shoulda turned him down knowing it would be a disaster.

under maturi's watch:

3 straight men's hockey seasons with no ncaa bid (unless a miracle happens this year)

The week before Don Lucia got sick, the Gopher hockey team was ranked third in the country. They went to North Dakota the next week and got smoked without Lucia behind the bench.

under maturi's watch:
women's basketball team lowest attendance in bt and second straight bottom three finish in bt

Quit trying to make us think you give a rat's a** about Gopher women's basketball.

jimmy williams lawsuit which we lost

Yep, Tubby shouldn't have offered him the job without consulting his boss.

golf coach lawsuit

The Gopher womens golf team, perennial losers in the Big Ten, just had its best fall season in the history of the program.

men's tennis team put on probation

You've always been the biggest tennis fan on the board. Tennis coach (not hired by Maturi) canned. Now ranked 27th in the country.

no substantial progress on baseball stadium

Shoulda put that 90 million fundraising for the football stadium on hold....more than 3 million raised to get 7 million for a new baseball stadium.

maximus....where are the results for revenue producing sports? ....the only teams that the masses care about SUCK.....face it. As a matter of fact, even womens hoops were on the map when Freeze was at the helm.

This program needs a new direction............I think Bob Stein would put us there. If you think maturi is king then say so! or if you have another candidate then tell us who it is....

M2S..

I am with you. The morons on this board will never support Stein so don't even bother. Problem is, he likely makes too much sense for the U of M athletic dept to even consider. Let's just extend Maturi's contract and cross our fingers.

if Tubby leaves, I would take a shot at Bobby Knight to replace him ...........he could give us 3 or 4 years of solid hoops and really get a program grounded for success......This program needs a culture shift expecting success with a winning attitude. I for one am sick of living in loserville..........

How about that, a moron calling morons morons.

I love Knight, but I think he might be done coaching and even if he were interested he's basketball's answer to Mike Leach. He absolutely runs a clean program, but he still has baggage.
