It's hard when the Gophers aren't very competetive. Yesterday, I saw some glimpses of hope.

Best part of the day? Taking in the sun on a glorious late October afternoon. It couldn't have been better. Each September, I question my ticket selection as I'm roasting in the hot sun. Yesterday makes it all worth it.

After a 41-14 loss, I sure did come home in a good mood. Go figure. I've mellowed. Is that good?

The team lost because the players were not as talented as Nebraska's. They did not lose because of effort, and that was great to see. I saw improved effort, schemes adjusted to what we can do well, and a group of young kids playing hard.

I also saw Gray take a step forward in one important area. When he threw the ball, he did not look like he was guiding it. He really threw it. This may seem like a small thing, but I can tell you from experience that it is a sign of improved comfort and confidence. That is absolutely vital.

The result was still crap, but the improvement over the Purdue and Michigan games was, to me, obvious.

I think that's the sentiment of a lot of Gopher fans but this is entirely due to the fact that we suck so bad. When you get drilled every week, the expectations have been set so low that getting drilled again doesn't hurt. Trust me, we feel a lot better today getting drilled at home than Wisconsin does losing by inches on the road vs. a ranked team and that's not a good thing that we feel this way. We would much rather have UW fans hurt today than our attitude.

Apathy is worse than anger and we're one stop closer as a program towards apathy and that's bad.

I came home in a bad mood too, but I've mellowed also. It does not mean that I am accepting losing, just that I am a grown man with other things to worry about. Whether I sit and dwell on this game until next Saturday or choose to spend time with my family being happy will not have any impact on the Gophers next Saturday or their preparation for next Saturday.

I did not leave mad or upset like after NDSU or MI and Purdue. I have to divorce seasons - basically we are bad, accept and start seeing areas of improvement. Last season, after the NUI beatdown I stopped being mad at Brewster because I knew he was gone and that a new coach was on the way. No wasting time getting angry at Brew. This year I did it after Purdue. I just don't expect to see a good team this year. I expect to see some improvment and am not focusing as much on the score. Really believe Coach Kill and his staff know how to coach and build a program. My patience is running thin but not out. I agree that apathy is worse than anger. I don't feel apathy - just need to keep my sanity. I love college football and love Minnesota Gopher football.
