The narrative is obvious to all, but here are the Billingsley rankings of upcoming opponents, the Gophers, and past opponents. In bold, teams the Gophers have defeated. Our B!G opponents record is a combined 32-23 (.582). Our upcoming opponents are 15-3 (.833). Our winning percentage is .800.

#21 Michigan State (8-1) Had a bye week.
#22 Wisconsin (7-2) Beat #22 BYU

# 25 Minnesota (8-2) Beat PSU

#26 Nebraska (7-2) Beat Michigan
#35 Michigan (6-3) Lost to Nebraska
#43 Penn St (5-4) Lost to Minnesota
#53 Iowa (6-4) Beat Purdue
#58 Northwestern (4-5) Bye week.
#76 Indiana (4-5)
Beat Illinois

The next two games will be slug fests and each teams strengths and weaknesses are designed for each other. There is no doubt that the next three weeks will show a slugfest for the title. At this point, Minnesota's destiny is in its own hands. It very well could be.... I can't say it.

Not quite. MSU and Nebraska both need to lose a game (not including their losses to us).

At least next week's game will take care of one of those losses for one team. Probably need Nebraska to win that game to give the Gophers a shot.

Comparing our previous opponents' records to our upcoming opponents' records is a bit deceiving.

Why?

There are 6 games in the books where our previous opponents played each other. They cannot both win.

Take those out of consideration and our previous opponents is a combined 26-17 (.604). Not a huge change, but a change.

On top of that, both of the upcoming opponents have had the luxury of playing Purdue, whereas only 2 or our 6 previous opponents were so lucky.
