What is the biggest surprise of the Big 10 so far this season?
Personally, I didn't see Ohio State starting 2-3 in the conference, especially with Turner seemingly healthy. But hell, the Buckeyes beat Purdue — on the road!! Also, the Badgers at 4-1 just blows my mind.
But with all that said, things are panning out pretty close to what people thought IMO.

PS-Minnesota is second in the league in scoring overall. Who would have thunk it? Click HERE and you'll see that the Gophers have very favorable overall stats as a team.

Purdue losing at home to Ohio St is the answer to your ? (I think).

That Royce and Trevor have yet to see the floor. Who would have thought that in September?

In no particular order-

Michigan.
Overall non conference losses.
Wisconsin.
Injuries.

Without a doubt Michigan. They were supposed to take a step forward this year not two steps back. I can't believe they extended their coach another five years.

Illinois' 5 nonconference losses, especially losses to medicore teams like Utah, Bradley and Georgia.

For me the fact that Northwestern is still even competitive without Coble is a huge surprise.

Surprised ? No.

I am shocked Purdue is 2-3 in conference and has now lost at NW !!

I hope FOT is ok.

Looking at average points per game is too simplistic - I think if you look at various statistical offensive efficiency ratings, you find that Minnesota is rated near the bottom, ahead of only Penn State, Iowa and Indiana. A very high tempo/pace compared to other teams helps put the points on the board, but efficiency wise their offense has been crap.

My biggest surprise is how far below my expectations the conference has performed. I actually thought the Big Ten would be near the top of all conferences this year - right now I don't see any teams that look like contenders to go deep into the tourney (although Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin could all come around... and perhaps even Minnesota [who I guessed would finish 13-5 in the Big Ten -- and they still have a real chance to] if Royce White hits the floor [as I've said since late July, there's nearly zero chance of Mbakwe playing this year]).

Best story of the year may be if Northwestern makes the tourney.
