On a somewhat related note. Has the B1G said how they will handle the tourney starting next year with the move to 14 teams? 2 byes and 6 1st round games to get to the quarters? Would that expand the tourney to WEdnesday? Or do they leave a couple teams home and keep the rest the same?

They haven't officially announced it yet, but I'm sure they'll include all 14 schools. No way they'll exclude anyone. Word has it they're not going to have divisions, which is good news. It'll start on Wednesday.

Seeds 1-4 will get double-byes to quarterfinals (to Friday),

Seeds 5-10 will get single byes to 2nd round (to Thursday)

First round (Wednesday) will have #11 vs. #14 and #12 vs. #13.

Will be surprised if it's anything different than that.

1st round game against the home team would be the worst case scenario for us

Gotta stay out of the 8-9 game. Mainly because I want to watch it without having to take off of work.

How could they do it that way....there would be 6 games on Thursday with 6 winners making it into the quarters with 4 more teams waiting.....I've never heard of 10 teams making the quarter finals....

They could start it on Thursday just like now but only the top two teams will get byes. You don't have to start it earlier unless you want the tournament to end on Saturday.....you aren't adding any rounds.....just teams that have to play in the first round.

Oh I get it....never mind....it would work out that way.....5 playing the team that lowest seed that won on Wednesday and 6 playing the other team that won Wednesday.

Double byes is a non-starter. I would guess same as now but only two teams get a first round bye.

Would they do it the way you described because it would be difficult to have 6 games in one day at one venue?

I think they would almost have to do double byes so they don't have 6 games in one day......that's 12 hours of basketball. Plus the time in between games.....it wouldn't be possible....the games would go from 11 in the morning until 1 in the morning.

Would they do it the way you described because it would be difficult to have 6 games in one day at one venue?

If that indeed is a problem, just go with 12 teams in tournament. We need more bubbles.:)

Any reason they couldn't have a couple games at a different site? In the same city of course. If Indy, extra games at Hinkle?

New Vike stadium plus Williams?

I think it is kind of fun for the fans who go to the tournament to have all the games at the same venue. I also think the perception of it being a disadvantage to play at a different site that first day might cause some problems. I think having all the games at one venue would probably make for a better atmosphere. I'm okay with that plan now....I just wasn't thinking clearly about it when I first saw it.

Anything is better that double-byes.

I'd rather see divisions and only the top four go to the tournament.

It would be cool to have the BTT here when we get the stadium built. I thought I read somewhere that we were one of the possible sites for a future Final 4 when the Vikings stadium is built. That would be fun.....I remember going to that first Final 4 back in 1992 with Duke, Michigan, Indiana and Cincinnati. I remember going to quite a few games in the dome....I think we even had a pre-B1G season game there against California one year.

6 games in one day isn't going to happen. No way, no how.

Byes to the quarterfinals for the top 4 seeds (as it is now) is the way to go. The only real difference is the bottom 4 teams (#11-14) now have to win an extra game to win the BTT, as it should be. They were the worst 4 during the regular season; they should have the most difficult path to the automatic bid.

I will be more than surprised if the Big Ten keeps the tournament as is (12 teams), excluding the bottom 2 teams. Maybe, and this is big maybe, I could see them playing #11 vs. #14 and #12 vs. #13 on the court of the higher seed on Tuesday, with the two winners joining the other 10 at the BTT site, starting on Thursday as usual. But even then, fans (the ones that purchased BTT tickets in advance) from the 2 schools who don't end up making it to Indy/Chicago kinda' get hosed in that scenario.

Doesn't this mean the 11-14 teams would have to win two extra games than a 1-4 team?

You may be right(you usually are about these things) but I don't like the double bye thing. To me it makes more sense to go with only 12 teams.

I'm sure it won't be that long before we find out.

True. But what I was saying is with 14 teams, seeds 11-14 would have to win 5 games to win the BTT instead of 4 as it is now, hence win an extra game.

I know the way you are described is how the Big East and SEC have done it in the past and but you could just have those Wednesday night games be part of the brackets that get you into the quarter finals. The way you described those bottom 4 teams have to win 5 games in 5 nights, while the top 4 teams only have to win 3. Couldn't you have the extra session on Wednesday night where two of the first 6 games are played to get into the quarter finals?

Final Four, yes. I don't think they'd ever hold the BTT in Zygi's Palace. Way too many empty seats.
