Detroit Free Press is first out of the gate:

7. Minnesota (4-0)
Last week: 9. Minnesota keeps making a steady climb up this list, but P.J. Fleck’s bunch hasn’t exactly been rowing the boat upstream. The Golden Gophers’ four victories have come against South Dakota State, Fresno State, Georgia Southern and Purdue. But Minnesota won’t face a quality team until November, so the Gophers should be able to enjoy this ride for a bit longer.

Next up: vs. Illinois, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, BTN.

Black Heart Gold Pants chimes in:

6. Minnesota (4-0, 1-0)
Purdue suffered some of the worst luck I’ve ever seen with Elijah Sindelar and Rondale Moore getting injured on the same play, and Minnesota capitalized. Purdue made it interesting in the fourth, so Minnesota’s D is probably porous as hell, but Tanner Morgan went 21-22 for 400 yards and 4 scores. I don’t care who you’re playing, that’s tough to do.

I implore sportswriters to not cast a vote for the Gophers as they rush to an 8-0 start. Their next four games are Illinois, Nebraska, at Rutgers and vs. Maryland. They would probably be the first power-five team to go 8-0 and not get ranked, bit it would make perfect sense. This season has 8-4 written all over it and that, my friends, is Big Ten West football for you.

MLive chimes in:

6. MINNESOTA (4-0)

Last year, the Golden Gophers ran all over Purdue in a win that propelled them to a strong finish. This time, it was Tanner Morgan's near perfect day, as the QB passed for 396 yards and four TDs, with just one incomplete pass (21 of 22). Rodney Smith added 115 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It was Minnesota's most complete performance of the season after three straight nail-biters. (Last week: 6)

UP NEXT: Minnesota vs. Illinois, 3:30 p.m. Saturday

Saturday Tradition chimes in:

7. Minnesota, 4-0 (W, 38-31 at Purdue)
Last week: No. 7

Four games, four one-possession wins. It’s pretty amazing that, as much as Minnesota has tried to gift teams a win, it still hasn’t faltered. The Gophers were pretty imposing through three quarters, but squandered a big lead late and allowed Purdue to get back into the game. Once again, Minnesota made just enough plays down the stretch to get the win. When you’re 4-0, that’s all that matters.

Up next: vs. Illinois

Bucky's 5th Quarter chimes in:

7. (8) Minnesota (4-0), W - 38-31 at Purdue, Next Week: vs. Illinois

It might be time to start taking Minnesota seriously. The Golden Gophers held off Purdue to secure a 38-31 road win and stay undefeated on the season. Quarterback Tanner Morgan was nearly perfect on the day, completing 21 of 22 passes for 396 yards, four touchdowns, and no picks. The Gophers have looked shaky at times this year but 4-0 is 4-0, and this team clearly knows how to pull out close wins. P.J. Fleck’s team will look to remain unbeaten when they host Illinois this weekend.

Someone is just a biiiit salty.

There is ZERO chance we would get to 8-0 and not be ranked. Ridiculous. Have fun with your 3-9 season.

Michigan sucks. Michigan St is good tho.

Michigan State wasn't exactly gangbusters at home against an Indiana team that OSU crushed. I think the Spartans are going to prove to be wildly inconsistent this year. I'd give us at least 50/50 chance and maybe a bit better at home.

I'm not sure we would beat Michigan or Michigan State head to head, but I get it / like it.

I think we’d put up a good fight with both teams. Michigan is over ranked, barely held on against Army and Wisconsin routed them bad. I think our passing game would give Michigan a lot of trouble. Michigan State I’m still not sure about. They haven’t had too tough of popp opponents, Arizona State would be the toughest game they’ve had and they lost. Indiana gave them a good game.

Highly doubt we'd come anywhere close to beating Rutgers 52-0. Maybe 38-14 if we finally put it all together. Michigan still has a lot more talent than we do and would be favored on a neutral field.

With MSU, I'd have to give them the edge after what they did to Northwestern and being 2-0 in the conference as well as their recent history.

The bolded part made me laugh.

Are some non-Minnesota B1G followers maybe getting a little bit nervous about the Gophers?

LOL - Iowa has literally zero chance to be 3-9 this season. Nice job.

The website is called back heart, gold pants so he thought it was a Purdue site which is understandable if you didn't click the link.

Oh no. I don't know how I'll ever look myself in the mirror again. On the other hand, I'm glad you got your daily hard-on being able to correct, shame and condescend someone on a message board. Hope you have an even better afternoon now!

Oh, boo-hoo. Take your L and move on, crybaby.

"Take your L"?? This says it all about you in one sentence. You're literally keeping score of wins and losses on a message board. Wow. "Oooooh, let's see who I can prove my superior intelligence on the Gopher Hole today!"

The funny thing is if you weren't so trigger happy to tell someone they are wrong....actually, forget it. There's zero chance you're changing your best at this point in your life.

You made a stupid statement, I rightfully called you out on it, and now you're crying about being called out on it. Like I said, boo-hoo. It was especially fun to call you out because you were so sure you had made some sick burn. If this is how thin-skinned you are, how do you function in the real world? Just say, "haha, my bad" and move on - or just ignore my statement. No one's compelling you to respond to me.

You must be slow. Scroll down a few posts and I said exactly that. You just jumped the gun because your whole existence in life is telling someone else they're wrong. Just say "haha, you're right" and go find the next poster to condemn and correct.

Again, he never said Iowa would go 3-9. You assumed he was talking about Iowa when he was clearly implying Purdue would go 3-9 given the name of the website is "Black Heart, Gold Pants" and he said "someone is a biit salty" as in they are salty we just beat them and took out their 2 best players (Purdue).

The only mistake he made was not clicking on the link when there was not reason to as Bleed already posted what they said on this thread.

I'd let it go.

His assumption that it was Purdue was the stupid statement - you know what they say about people who assume. I knew that he was talking about Purdue, which made it even more fun to rip on him.

I did let it go - I stopped responding and let Mr. Thinskin have the last word.

When we handle Bucky again, you'll sing a different tune.

He had already been called out by someone else.

3-9 would be surprising considering Iowa already has 4 wins.

No one is impressed that you read someone else's post correcting him, and then copied that poster in correcting him again, and then made several more posts gloating over your copied correction. Let it go.

Daily Nebraskan chimes in:

7. Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten)

Minnesota played its first Big Ten game at Purdue, winning 38-31. Sophomore quarterback Tanner Morgan was nearly perfect, throwing for 396 yards and four touchdowns with only one incompletion. Minnesota took a commanding 38-17 lead in the third quarter behind Morgan’s performance. Purdue cut the lead to seven with four minutes remaining but could not get a stop to give the offense a chance to tie it. Minnesota plays Illinois at home next.
