BIG TEN MEDAL OF HONOR 100TH ANNIVERSARY SPOTLIGHT – Michigan’s Jason Botterill: Botterill, who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1997, tallied 186 points in 150 career games, including 57 points (32 goals, 25 assists) during Michigan’s run to the 1995-96 NCAA title. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Botterill played in 88 games in the NHL over six seasons. Following the conclusion of his playing career, Botterill returned to Michigan to earn his MBA in 2007. He is currently the Assistant General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Where We Rank: Following a weekend sweep of Minnesota State, Minnesota continues to hold down the No. 1 spot for the fifth straight week in the latest versions of both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Polls, released on Monday. Joining the Gophers in the rankings are Michigan at No. 5 and Wisconsin at No. 12 in both polls. Both the Wolverines and Badgers posted road splits last weekend. Ohio State, which has won five straight games and eight of its last nine contests, is receiving votes in both polls …

Winning Ways: Roughly one quarter of the way through the 2013-14 season, three Big Ten teams rank among the nation’s top 12 squads in winning percentage. Minnesota is tied for third nationally with a winning percentage of .850 while Michigan follows in a tie for sixth at .750. Buoyed by its recent hot streak, Ohio State has climbed into a tie for 11th with a winning percentage of .667. Since Oct. 25, no team in the country has posted more wins than Ohio State’s eight …

Power Surge: A significant part of Michigan’s success this season can be traced back to its prowess on the power play. The Wolverines are converting on 27.5 percent of their man-advantage opportunities, which leads all Big Ten teams and ranks fourth nationally. Michigan has scored at least one power-play goal in eight of its 10 games this season, posting a 6-1-1 record in those contests. Senior forward Luke Moffatt has accounted for four of the team’s 11 power-play tallies, which places him in a tie for third nationally in that category …

Back Between the Pipes: A common theme across the conference last weekend was strong performances by goalies who had not seen action in an extended period of time. Returning from an injury sustained early this season, Wisconsin’s Joel Rumpel led the Badgers to a road victory over No. 8/8 Miami on Saturday. In Minnesota, Michael Shibrowski made his first start in over a year and posted a shutout against Minnesota State on Saturday. Ohio State’s Logan Davis recorded wins in his first two collegiate starts, including a shutout on Friday. Michigan’s Steve Racine also returned from an injury and guided the Wolverines to a road win over Nebraska Omaha on Saturday …

Coming Soon: The start of Big Ten conference play is just a week away as a pair of conference series will open the inaugural season Thanksgiving weekend. Minnesota will play host to Wisconsin Nov. 29-30 while Michigan and Ohio State will play a home-and-home series on Nov. 29 (at Michigan) and Dec. 2 (at Ohio State) …

Taking on the Best: With another win over a ranked opponent last weekend, Big Ten teams have now posted 10 such victories this season in non-conference play. Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin have combined to defeat Boston College (twice), Boston University (twice), Lake Superior State (once), Miami (once), Minnesota Duluth (once), New Hampshire (twice) and Notre Dame (once) this season …
