BIG TEN MEDAL OF HONOR 100TH ANNIVERSARY SPOTLIGHT – Michigan’s Jason Botterill: Botterill, who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1997, tallied 186 points in 150 career games, including 57 points (32 goals, 25 assists) during Michigan’s run to the 1995-96 NCAA title. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Botterill played in 88 games in the NHL over six seasons. Following the conclusion of his playing career, Botterill returned to Michigan to earn his MBA in 2007. He is currently the Assistant General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Where We Rank: Following a weekend sweep of Minnesota State, Minnesota continues to hold down the No. 1 spot for the fifth straight week in the latest versions of both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Polls, released on Monday. Power Surge: A significant part of Michigan’s success this season can be traced back to its prowess on the power play. The Wolverines are converting on 27.5 percent of their man-advantage opportunities, which leads all Big Ten teams and ranks fourth nationally. Michigan has scored at least one power-play goal in eight of its 10 games this season, posting a 6-1-1 record in those contests. Senior forward Luke Moffatt has accounted for four of the team’s 11 power-play tallies, which places him in a tie for third nationally in that category …
